MSN after online BSN from Chamberlain?

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone and firstly, I would like to thank you all for your answers and advice in advance.

I am currently earning an associates in nursing at a community college and will be ready to apply for my BSN for next Fall (2022) and started looking into decent and affordable online programs and eventually want to do an MSN/NP Program.

Would a decent in person NP Program accept me with an online BSN from Chamberlain? I am about to apply to several schools and Chamberlain looks best for me so far but worried I won't be able to earn a spot for an in person MSN/NP degree with a BSN from Chamberlain. Is a BSN from Chamberlain decent? I have looked on line and found some great reviews and some so so ones.

Thank you so much for your help

xoxo

For profit schools are almost always a bad idea.

Aren’t all private schools for profit? Is NYU a bad nursing school? Or Pace? Columbia?  I’m just trying to understand. Non profit is always interesting too…they’re like churches: they pay themselves a lot and pay no taxes so I don’t know there is a difference between the 2 when it comes to that. I’m just wondering if Chamberlain has a bad rep…and If I can go to a good masters program from there (Chamberlain)

No, a for profit school means they have shareholders and spend most of their money on advertising and trying to get as many students as possible to increase revenue. They usually have near 100% acceptance rates because as long as you can write them a check or access student loans they want you. A good number have gone out of business or simply defrauded students - the government has had to forgive millions in student loans from students duped by these diploma mills over the years. Many employers recognize them as joke schools and don't even consider graduates from those programs - garbage in, garbage out.

Does that sound like NYU or Pace to you?

I would suggest getting a job and some experience before you focus on NP programs. You may not be interested in a MSN after working. Some people decide to leave nursing for medicine or pa school. Definitely keep your options open.

Chamberlain is considered a diploma mill. Avoid at all costs.

Tysm! I won’t get the best job with an associate in nursing. I am already considering BSN programs as the deadline is approaching. I don’t want to make a bad decision that may affect my chances to become an NP.

I have what many would consider a good job with an associates, started in the ICU. I graduated May 2021.  Don't sell yourself short, apply often and early.

That’s really amazing to hear! I hope I find something great as well. But where I am hospitals require a BSN and there are many wonderful nurses with a BSN. As far as the NP degree, I don’t know where life will take me but for sure I’d like to have that  possibility vs not having it

thank you so much and I’m so glad to hear from

I had an associates for years before doing an RN to MSN program. What I recommend is getting any experience you can while you’re in school on top of clinical.  My last Summer before graduation, I landed a nurse residency program where I worked with a preceptor for ten weeks in step down. This cleared the path for my last clinical in ICU. All this helped me get my first job in pacu. It’s experience and ability to articulate that’s experience that lands you coveted jobs.

under some thoughts, I place less value on the BSN portion and don’t feel chamberlain is a detriment. Our local brick and mortar got rid of their RN to BSN program all together forcing many to go online.  A hospital I worked for actually paid for nurses who went to chamberlain.  But if you can find a local brick and mortar that offers it you may find not are willing to accept the education.
