Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hello everyone! I hope that this thread can be used for anyone currently in the MSN leadership or education program or anyone interested in .

I am getting my MSN in education. I started September 2013 and will be done this fall 2014.

My most challenging course has been the research proposal class. I am finally done with that and currently working on my capstone.

Any questions or concerns in regards to the MSN post them here for help.

Lindsey and others: if you finished within a year or so, where you full time student, not working? Thank you

Yes, I was a full time student and working part/full time. I should note that I am in the old MSN version at without the 3 P's. I picked this program because I like the learning model. I would pick this school again and again!! I highly recommend!!

Thanks for the quick response. Sorry but what are the 3 P's? I have gleaned the program has recently changed but not sure how. And did both education and leadership tracks change. Or just one tract? Thanks

The three p's are pharmacology, patho physiology, and physical assessment-Advanced

I'm not sure if both tracks changed. Maybe someone can answer this?

Don't kill me but these sound like hard P's. Has the program become a lot more difficult? They are surprising courses for a leadership concentration

Both tracks did change and the three P's are in most MSN programs now as you will need them for admission to DNP or post masters NP program.

Thank you for your patience with my many questions. A friend has been in a MSN program for years. She wishes she had investigated more thoroughly, so I am trying to benefit from her bad experience. The website says avg completion is 4 years. Is that accurate? I understand the role of experience (I have worked in ICU for yrs, now I am an educator/manager for a research division at a hospital.) But can I expect to do it in 2 years if the avg is 4?!

I will have completed my MSN-Education within 1 yr. I started sept 2013 and will be done sept 2014. Note that it may take longer with the 3 P's now. It's very doable!!

I plan to finish my MSN in 4 terms (2 years) and I am by NO way rushing it. In fact, for just the BSN-MSN, I think 2 years is the max, based on the number of credits you're required to do each term (8, minimum).

Do you think I am misunderstanding the website? It says 4 years is avg. I will look again. If 2 years is a reasonable timeline, let the application timeline begin!

My mistake. BSN to MSN is 2-2.5 yrs. I must have looked at RN to MSN or something else. Thx for setting me straight.

Good luck! FWIW, I could easily do it in 3 terms (18 months) which is huge for me, because I am a major procrastinator, and my schooling is really far down on my life priority list. But I decided to intentionally do the full 4 terms because of what I want to do for my capstone project, I will need the full 6 months to do it (which is less of a worry for you, because you will be enrolling under the new program and will not have a capstone project, from what I understand).
