Hi there. I am a student at MSC, I am in my second block (the LPN only has 3). The school does have some issues but probably nothing more than any other college. The books come with the cost of tuition, so they are yours to keep. However, I have spent about $100 on extra books that were not given to us, that I felt were helpful. There are good teachers and not-so-good teachers here. You kind of have to make the most out of what you are given. I chose this school because I am on the waiting list for the RN program, and I figured I might as well get some sort of education/skills while I'm waiting. I graduate in August and I hope to work a bit before I start block 3 of the RN program. Good luck!:wink2:
And may I ask what you're NET score are/were at the time acceptance? It is really frustrating not knowing what it takes to be in the top 40 (or some relative idea)!! Thanks and good look with graduatation. I'm hoping to be accepted into the may program for 09, so i have my fingers crossed.
Yes they do look at your NET scores. You will def get in with your scores. I scored higher in math than I did in reading-I don't remember the exact numbers, but both my reading & math scores were in the 80s/90s. They are a lot stricter now than they used to be on who they let in. Along with NET scores, you need to have a copy of your GED/diploma, CPR certification, immunizations, birth certificate, and transcripts. They should give you a packet that has all of that info, but it takes a while to get it all together. Have you talked with Anthony yet? He is the one you want to talk to about all of that stuff. Best of luck to you!:)
You are given scrubs (two sets) in block B. There are 3 blocks. The reason they don't give them to you in block A is because we don't start clinicals until block B. And yes, they are yours to keep, as well as the books. There is a small on-campus library for students to use as a source of reference when our books are not enough. I did end up buying a few extra books from B&N that I felt were helpful, but they are not necessary. HTH :wink2:
Yes, I have already gotten the imm., CPR, physical, etc. and turned my packet into Anthony like 3 weeks ago.
Although, and I'm not sure if it is just that the program is over loaded, I never seem to get a straight answer from them. Hopefully it is enough, I wanted to retake my NET test, although with the 60 retake requirement MCCD puts on it, it was not possibly for this application period.
I was not able to even complete the reading section, but from what I hear that is pretty standard.
Well, as of right now I am pretty sure that I should get in to MSC with my scores. But, if I don't, I will retake the NET for higher scores and reapply to MSC for Sept. I will also apply to Gateway, and work as a CNA full time and take some classes while I wait to get in. I am also maybe considering going to U of A for their Fast Track Nursing program IF I didn't get accepted now.
Since I already have a Bachelor's degree it would be a nice program...however, the best thing for my family and I would be for me to get an LPN job ASAP and then finish up prereq's, then go inot Block 3 & 4
As you can see, there are many opportunities...but probably the LPN in May. I hope!!!
How about you?? What are your plans??
Thanks
ideally, my goal is very similar to yours although I have a husband who was injured and now suffers from a tramatic brain injury, so a shorter program would be ideal. Then work my way into a lpn bridge to bsn (u of phx, preferably) but of course that means getting into MSC. Well now we only have a week left. Let me know when you get your letter either way. I hope we both get into the may class!!!

Has anyone applied to Maricopa Skill Center for the May 8, 2008 start date? What kind of NET scores did you get? Or did anyone else you know get? Or what is the average score necessary to be in the Top 40 scores?
Thanks for the input.
