Hello everyone. I am also new to the forum. I am also interested in the LPN program at MSC. I hope to get in the program starting in February. Howevever, I didn't see any info pertaining to prereqs on their website besides the NET, shots, fingerprint card, CPR, ect. Does anyone know if CNA certification A&P or other classes are required? Can anyone offer any advice and or info pertaining to what the scheduling might be like for classes and clinicals? I work at night so I'm hoping this program will be doable. Any information about your experience or what to expect will be greatly appreciated.
Do NOT attend MSC! I graduated from the PN program this past aug. 1st off there is barely any LPN jobs out there. I would just take your pre-reqs and get on the waiting list for the community colleges RN program. the program at MSC is $8000! and you do NOT need any pre-reqs to be admitted. if you plan to go onto the RN program take ALL your co-reqs for block 3 BEFORE you go to MSC. if you do not get into block 3 within 6 months of graduating MSC you have to get IV certified which takes 1 semester and re take pharmacology. Just get the pre-reqs done 1st! Class schedule in block A was mon-fri 8am-3pm, we had like every other friday off. block B/ 1 we had class mon-wed 8am-3pm and clinicals 630am-4pm thur OR fri. block C/2 we had class mon-wed 8-2! and clinicals 630-4pm thurs OR fri. the school was VERY unorganized and would NOT recommed it. the block 2 teachers were much better then the other 2 blocks. overall im sooo glad to never have to go back to MSC. if you CAN wait, wait to get into an RN program, muchhh better!
I hear your delima, but what I'm going to say hopefully help you make the right choice...
I attended MSC LPN problem and graduated in 2004, been a LPN now for 5 yrs, I should have gone back and finished my Pre Reqs but did not. I got greedy with the money I was making and didn't go back to finish my RN. So now University of Phx has the LPN to BSN program, so I'm in that, I finish next Sept... Here in PHX, all the hospitals are now looking to hire BSN RN's because they want to go after Magnet Status. So hopefully this helps with your problem.. Now the LPN to BSN program yuo have to be a LPN for one year.
I don't know what I'm going to do. Had plans to finish pre-reqs by October but dropped my 201 because Block B was so overwhelming. Also, our graduation was moved to January. There are some very unhappy people now in Block C. I'm just trying to regroup and make a new plan. It is hard because I'm angry with the school for the changes they made and I'm angry with myself for not be able to get my prereqs done like I planned. With that said, I'm looking into LPN - BSN programs vs LPN-RN. I have a job when I graduate and I have a job that will help with tution. The problem is, I'm so tired of school and studying and not having a life. I want a break and think that if I take one I may not go back. It makes sense to keep going and get it over with. Each Friday I have my clinical and that helps to refresh me and assure me I'm on the right track but than back to work and school...........well, I go seven days a week. Three days school and three days work and one day clinicals. There are a lot of us doing this. We are getting sick and staying sick. Run down and tired.......You get it......Just BARELY seeing the light at the end of tunnel at this point!!! It will all be worth it. It will al be worth. It will all be worth it???????????????
thanks everyone for info on msc.....but thats in the state of az where their are not plenty lpn jobs....in mich 4 of my friends r pn's making btw 24-26 hr strait out of school one has been a pn 4 6 years, and the others just graduated in 2008 they all make good money and their all goin back 4 their rn, and they all say it was worth it.....i dnt plan on staying here when im done with school theres better nursing jobs else where and plentiful!
Things change like the tide, here in AZ was a boom state, I could quite one job and next the day be working at a new place without trying hard. Hope it doesn't happen to Michigan, but since detriot is almost a ghost town I can't beleive other cities are making a go of things.

yea thas true but i only been living here 4 a year, and it seems to me like this states makes it extremly hard 4 u here with everything, yes the city of detroit is doing much worse than the state overall, but the hospitals doesnt have hiring freezes, and its way more longterm care facilities and etc.... than ive seen here!
NET, with scores of 50 in math and 60 in reading. The higher the better at this school. They take highest scores only. Once you do their tutorial on the website, as instructed, and present your NET scores, they will give you an application. From there you will go see a Dr. and get all of the neccesary immunizations and Dr. Ok's for this program. then turn in compeleted app along with doing your financial aid. That's about it. I didn't have high NET scores, so I ended up NOT applying. But, I got into the Southwest skill center! Good luck to you!
if u dnt mind me askin how is swsc i start in march?
I am wondering how MSC LPN program is doing right now. I have been searching and reading most of the posts here reagrding the Maricopa Skill Center but I can't seem to find fresh ideas or info about it. Is it still worth it getting the LPN? or just wait it out till I got placed into the MCCD. Hope somebody helps! thank you. appreciate any input.
What is the schedule in the MSC LPN program? I just got accepted for the fall 2010.
My sister will be graduating from MSC in a week and she has seen a lot of changes. It is still very unorganized and there are teachers coming and going. She has passed everything and scored well on the HESI. There aren't many jobs for LPNs, just in long term care mostly. As far as getting into block 3 when your done, it doesn't seem as easy to get in. Some of my classmates who I graduated with in Aug 09 got into block 3 Jan 10. I have not gotten into block 3 yet, I have waited a semester. If you can wait, then wait. If you really need to work as an LPN asap then go to MSC. Have all your pre and co-requisites done before MSC, so you can turn your application to block 3 in right when your done at MSC.

Thank you. I finished all my pre-reqs and co reqs, even got my CNA from GWCC. I read about the time stamp was last dated as 02/09 for the fall MCCND RN program. It seems ridiculous wait of 5-6 semester as my time stamp is 02/10. Is there anychance you still remember the books needed for the first block? I assumed that they already established a syllabus based on books, that it may not have been changed when you last attended. Appreciate your response.
Yayy I just found out I start block 3 in August! I wouldn't want to wait that long either! I don't remember all the titles for the block 0 books, I know it was an anatomy book, med term, and nutrition book. In blocks 1 and 2 you need a Davis's Drug guide and Adult health nursing and Foundations of Nursing and a pharmacology book. all the books are included in the $8000 (or whatever the tuition price is now) tuition. Good luck with whatever you decide! :)
