Hi everyone I have a question about MRSA. I was recently went to the Dr and asked him to look at a boil I have on my hip. They called back a few days later to tell me that the cultures they took show I have MRSA. I just got accepted I to nursing school and start in January but now I am freaking out wondering how this will affect my career choice! Will I still be able to attend school? Clinicals? Be hired as a nurse? Work in a hospital? I am a 33 yr old single mom of three PLEASE someone...anyone tell me that all the time and money I have invested up to this point has not been a complete waste!
Staphylococcus aureus: Screening for Nasal Carriers in a Community Setting with Special Reference to MRSA
During the study we also found that the prevalence of SA in healthcare workers was 13.33% (4/30) which is less as compared to that reported by another study from Delhi (37.3%) [26]. Studies elsewhere have reported 6–50% as carrier rate amongst health care workers, particularly those posted in the burns and intensive care units [22]. In the present study MRSA and MSSA were observed amongst 2 members each (MRSA 6.66%, MSSA 6.66%). These results are in consensus with findings by Goyal et al. (MRSA 6.6% among HCW) [26].
Dont panic.
When I moved district health boards at the start of last year I had to get MRSA swabs done and found that I had MRSA of the butt crack. I had to scrub with chlorhexadine scrub for 7-8 days and then retest. No problems the second time around.
So get ye to the chemist (think you call them drug stores) get some chlorhexadine scrub and start I did it at least once daily and more often if I showered more often.

LOL. Please, most nurses probably have MRSA colonization in their nares at a minimum.
