Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I am a prospective nursing student in Canada that was recently treated for a small MRSA infection. I am freaking out a little bit. Will be a carrier forever and will this prevent me from being hired as a healthcare worker in the future? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

No this will not prevent you from being hired. Good luck!

I have had several MRSA infections requiring hospitalization and IV antibiotics and currently am a carrier. Multitudes of health care workers have MRSA.
I have been de-colonized in the past which was absolutely miserable. I was on 3 antibiotics and lost 70 pounds. I do not recommend it.

Many, many people carry MRSA in their nose or on their skin, whether they're infected by it or not. I've read up to 30% of the population does, and I'm sure it's much higher in the nursing population. If hospitals avoided hiring MRSA carriers they'd probably lose half their staff around the world.

I came up MRSA positive in my nose and perineum in the 80s. I had de-colonizing treatment with Chlorhexidine washes, Bactroban cream and Sterzac powder. I have tested negative ever since.
