I am looking to move to South Australia within the next few years. Currently I am a LPN Triage Nurse. Is it only RN's in Oz? Just not sure I want my RN here in the US...actually not sure I want my RN period...But was just wondering about LPN's there...

Thanks for any responses...

If looking for immigration you may find that RN is the requirement with immigration

The Aussie (almost) equivalent for LPN is ENROLLED NURSE.

I say (almost) because the EN course and practise is somewhat different to the American LPN.

I once worked with an Aussie EN who had worked in the USA as an LPN. But .. that was many years ago now.

I'll phone the nurses board tomorrow (I'm in SA) and will post the answer here for you once I've assertained if you can work here as an EN with your LPN qualifiactions.

You've made an EXCELLENT choice of where to live BTW!!! :)

Ok, I've made the phone call this morning and here's what I was told:

You have to apply for an "Overseas Assessment" by the South Australian Nurses Board at their website:

www.nursesboard.sa.gov.au

You access the application forms there.

I was informed that the application can take up to 4 months to be processed.

Once your application has been received and processed and confirmed etc, you will be informed whether or not your LPN qualifications are acceptable for registration as an ENROLLED NURSE here in South Australia.

Your LPN qualification will only be accepted for working as an EN.

It will not qualify you to work as an RN.

Hope this helps you in your quest! :)
