Moving to NC (Raleigh-Durham)

Published

Hi all!

My girlfriend and I are highly considering moving to the Raleigh-Durham area from the Philly suburbs in early 2016, and are looking to buy a new-build in the Oak Grove/Gorman area. I will be graduating with my associates degree this December, and I'm planning to apply for the new grad internship at duke Sept. 1st. My girlfriend (BSN) has 4 years tele, OR, and otrtho experience so it will be easy for her to get a job but how about me? If the new grad gig falls through, is it easy to find work somewhere else in the area? Like a nursing home, urgent care, or doctors office? What are the options, and what's the area like when it comes to nursing? We absolutely love triangle area, and are about to move no matter what. It's a totally different atmosphere compared to Philly, but I feel like its the same when it comes to a high influx of new nurses, and not enough work.

Thanks!

I work in the Raleigh area. I had my ASN in nursing with a BA in Sociology. I did not have a hard time finding a job, but also came in with a year of OB experience. There are other hospitals in the area also to look at: Wake Med Raleigh, Wake Med North, Rex, just to name a couple. Rex is opening a brand new heart hospital, I think in 2017.

WakeMed, Rex, UNC, and Duke all have satellite facilities along with their "big" hospitals. Huge medical hub here. Probably easier to get a job here than other geographical area. Good luck!!! (won't be able to find anything close to a cheesesteak here LOL)

Things seem to be much easier job-wise here than back home in Philly, even for new grads. It's a very big medical hub.

I will have to say, the worst part about being down here is the cheesesteak withdrawal! However, the people are MUCH nicer but I still get homesick for Philly.

I am from Chicago and you can't get decent pizza here LOL
