Moving to Memphis - Which school??

Hi everybody-

I will be moving to Memphis this spring, and I am applying to the Accelerated BSN programs at the UTHSC, U of M, and Union University in Germantown to start in Fall 2007. I am waiting to see where I get accepted, but which one do you recommend? Does one have the best reputation for new grads in terms of being hired? Any other advice about any of these three schools? I am moving from CA, and have never posted on this site before, and I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

Hi marvinskbaby1,

How long have you been attending the U of M, and why do you hate it? Any info. you can tell me would be really appreciated, because hopefully I will know where I'm accepted soon & will need to decide where to attend. Do you feel that the U of M is preparing you well for nursing?

I'm in my fourth semester of nursing school so I will be graduating in December. I guess everyone pretty much hates nursing school though. But, I can say I do feel prepared, the one year program is no easy ride, but people do it all the time. Just be prepared to handle the workload.

Yeah, but why do you hate it?? Is the that the program is hard? That it takes work? Or do you dislike the professors at U of M? Is your hate of the program specific to the actual program of U of M, or it is just that you don't like nursing school in general? If you could be more specific that would be more helpful. Thanks!

Cingly, the U of M program is great. You have your great professors and not so good ones. Same goes for clinical instructors (I have liked all mine so far though). I think the grading is fair, the clinical experiences at the various hospitals has been great for me so far.

I like it so much that I plan to stay here and teach as a clinical instructor and after many years experience, I want to be a professor as well as an NP here in Memphis.

My wife recently graduated from Lowenburg (u of m). She enjoyed the program with a few exceptions such as an instructor here or there. Other than that she said that it was pretty straight forward, just be prepared to study. As for me, I'm doing the LPN mobility tract for my ADN at Southwest CC starting in May. I've heard good things and bad things about both programs. I guess school is what YOU make of it, not the other way around!
