Moving to CT

My husband and I are moving to CT in August. I have begun my pre-reqs courses (I already have a bachelors). I applied to Capital Community College but found out they have a two year wait. It's not going to take me that long to finish my reqs - I'll be done with A and P 2 by the end of the year. We will be living in or around Hartford - What other schools are reccommended? Do they all have such a long wait? This really worries me as I don't want to wait 4 years to make my dreams of becoming a nurse come true. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Gina

Hi all,

I am looking for information on places to live and work in and around the new haven area. I am moving from missouri, I spent some summers in CT while in college and really liked it. If anyone can give me some help as far as nice, affordable places to live in or around he new haven area. and some great places to work in the the new haven area, it would be appreciated.

Naugatuck Valley Community College (near Waterbury) has an ecellent nursing program, but like the others, you have to apply and be accepted into the nursing program and they are very competitive.

There is also U. Conn, St Joseph's in the area: both have excellent programs!

New Haven residential areas vary widely from very safe to extremely unsafe.

I understand you are moving to the Hartford, CT area and unfortunately some nursing programs in CT do have long waitlist. However, I've heard of a program at Fairfield Univerisity in Fairfield, Connecticut (It is about an hour drive south, from Hartford) but the program there may suit your needs. A classmate of mine left our part-time evening program to go there, and was immediately accepted after leaving our program.

FFLD U's program is geared toward students who have already earned their bacherlor's degree and who wish to obtain their nursing degree. I do believe it is an intense, full-time day program that takes about a year (including the summer) however, you'll be completed with the program in a shorter period of time as opposed to other programs whose part-time programs can take up to 3 or 4 years. Again, I'm not sure this would suit your lifestyle but it may be worth looking into.

I was very interested to read your post, as I am considering NS in CT as well. I am wondering if your part time evening program is a BSN program? Can you tell me which program you attend? I am trying to check out all the options in CT.
