Moving to another state, questions

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi! I have been a registered nurse in Texas since 2005 when I graduated from an ADN program. I have decided to go back to school to get my BSN but have not yet decided what online program to use. Well... My husband just got word that his company is transferring him to Wyoming so I will have to apply for a nursing license which should be no problem. My question is can I attend one of the Texas universities online rn-bsn programs if I have a Wyoming license. Anyone know? Advice? I have looked up classes in Wyoming and they are all different from my classes so I'm not sure what will transfer. It just seems so much easier to continue my schooling in Texas because I only have 7 classes left to get a BSN. Thanks!

Applying for licensure by endorsement in Wyoming will not have any effect on your Texas license. When you relocate and change your address with the Texas BON, your Texas license will remain active, however it will lose its multi-state privileges and become a single state license only.

As your Texas license will remain active, if that is a requirement of the school you are attending, there shouldn't be an issue. Be aware, however, that when you leave Texas you might be charged tuition at the out-of-state rate.

Best wishes in your relocation and continued education.

Texas is a compact state, but I don't think Wy is one.

In that case, she can simultaneously hold licenses from both states
