Can anyone in Vegas that has worked at either of these facilities give me the pro's and con's of each. I am a new grad and am looking for the hospital that will help me develop a solid foundation during my first year. Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Thank you for writing me back. It would be nights on med/surg. Is Spring Valley a union hospital? any other info you can share would be appreciated.
no we don't have a union. valley hospital and desert springs are union hospitals. have you applied yet? are you looking for a union hospital?

I would go with mountainview. I wouldn't work for a hospital that also owns DS or the other ones. Mountainview is also in a nicer area (if I remember correctly).

I work at Spring Valley and really enjoy it. I don't know what Desert Springs Hosp has to do w/ your decision. As far as not having a union in place it has been more of a positive thing since the hospital is so new and demands are met fairly easily. The area of town is not in the ghetto, I'm sure other hospitals like St Rose are in better areas but considering we have Spanish Trails down the street we have rather decent pts.
If you haven't already accepted a position at Mtn View I would reconsider your options at Spring Valley.

Hi kizzykatlove and mom2boys,
I'm from CA, and would like to work in Vegas. Can you tell me what's the nurse-patient ratio on the med/surg floor at Spring Valley like? I know you don't have nurse-patient ratio in Vegas so just want to get an idea. Thanks.
spring valley 6 to 1 very good ratio..
Thanks for the reply. Does it ever go up to 8? Cause I heard in Vegas, I'm not sure which hospital, it notoriusly goes up to 9?!!!
no we don't go up to 8 we stay at 6 to 1..
I don't work Med/Surg, I am in L&D. I do know when I was in nursing school a few yrs back and did clinicals at St Rose Dilema their med/surg did occasionally go to 7:1. I also did a report in nursing school comparing the nurse ratio laws in CA vs. not having them here in NV. I called around to a few units in different hospitals. None of them had a set policy stating a ratio, which meant it could vary depending on the amt of staff vs pts.
I wish you the best of luck no matter where you decide to go
Thanks.:balloons:
