Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2010

U.S.A. California

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Wow everyone says something different. They said some hospitals let you wear them today....is that not true???

i'm 99% sure it's not up to the hospitals, it's up to the clinical instructors/mount saint mary's, as it is up to them to decide what our "uniform" is.

The uniform people told us the same stuff they told you guys, that you can wear them at clinicals and that everyone loves the fleece jacket and the sweatshirt and that you should get both!

sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

On that note, do we have to wear white under the uniforms?

yes, anything underneath needs to be white (although ladies, white bras and underwear will totally show through, so nude-colored undergarments may be the best way to go :) )

HAHA they are the ones that told us today! It was the clinical director and her staff.

idk who that clinical director you're referring to but we're referring to the ones who told us directly that those sweaters are not allowed at all DURING clinicals. you can wear them BEFORE clinicals, DURING lunch, and AFTER clinicals.

we had clinicals today so the "clinical director" shouldn't have been there.

IDK then....but we always get different stories. I bought it anyway so I am gonna have to find time to wear it and get my money out of it. It was so expensive!

I just like the way that the hoodie looks! the fleece is kinda funky

Princessandraya. Are you referring to the director of the nursing program bc there I do not know who the clinical director is and I have been in the program for 9 weeks. The main clinical instructor was with our class in clinicals all day yday. She is the one who will go over the dress code in detail the second week of school. And she told our class we can not wear anything over our uniforms when we are at ucla. We can wear a long sleeve shirt under our top but it has to be white. I bought both bc I didn't know that since the uniform people told me we could wear them. I do like the white sweatshirt jacket and wear that in class but I never wear the blue fleece bc it sheds all over the white uniform.

The hoodies are American Apparel, so they should be comfy!

I am not sure, she is the one in charge of all our clinical placement and she was there the whole time answering questions. She was super nice and very helpful. I hope I don't freeze my ass off. I am glad to hear you wear the hoodie in class, because I was hoping to do the same thing. Can we wear what we want on class days??? Or is there a dress code for that as well?

Thanks for all your feed back. You are helping all of us understand the program more.

yeah..

I was in MSMC Accelerated program and I left the program early and I am glad I did (I am now in a different school).

I realized I couldn't afford MSMC (they increased the tuition) and with all that money students were paying, student to clinical instructor ratio was the same as the community college nursing schools..

I thought "Why do I have to pay so much more if I don't get as much help and care from the professors than other schools that are way cheaper?"

and I also felt that some of the staffs were not very supportive of students. I feel that if i paid less, I wouldn't have expected alot from the program and complained as much about the program.

anyways MSMC isn't a bad school but they do overcharge! (and when I requested the school for my tuition back after dropping out, they first refused to give me the money back by saying even though students drop out they still need to pay the professors (I was like what the heck? if I don't get the service (education) then why do I am I getting charged?.. I was about to report this school to Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education for not giving my money back and they eventually did... about a year later.. thank God..the lady (the head of the Financial Aid)listend to my plea and help me out!)

I do not want to make MSMC look bad but I did have some negative experiences myself..paying more money doesn't necessarily equate to better education and care for students from school so watch out!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and never know that this exists. I just wanna share these things to you guys specially for those who were denied, deferred acceptances and even for those who were waitlisted.

I, myself too, deferred my acceptance because I have just realised later that there is a better program out there. After interviews with graduates of MSMC ABSN of the previous cohort, it made me realize that this program is not really for me. It is really a rigorous program that will me at risk later on, on top of paying $53k for the entire program and if you failed some classes due to their 75% pass proficiency rate, they will put you to the next cohort and pay another portion of tution fee will amount you to $75k to $80K just to graduate( this is based on my personal interview with one of the ladies who failed the Advanced MedSurg just to find out she just missed a point away to 75%, sounds ridiculous!!!!!)

I have searched a lot of programs within the area, and so far the best program I have ever known is exactly the same program the MSMC is offering, THE ABSN PROGRAM OF CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY IN IRVINE.!!!!!With the fee of $29k for the entire program, I wont hesitate to wait to turn in my application for Spring admission. It is a big difference of $34k from MSMC and the good thing is, there is no hassle for that BIOETHICS requirement because it is incorporated in the program, a very organized program as Ive herad from my cousin who is a graduate of that program and a very high passing NCLEX rate.(this looks very enticing and ineteresting!!!!!) and the good thing from that, expectation level for all the classes is only 70% unlike the horrible 75% of the MSMC).

One good thing also that made up my mind to defer my acceptance which I wont regret it later, is the , higher probability of getting in into CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY because they will be opening two groups per cohort in the next admission. So for those all of you who are waitlisted, I know one of you will get my spot or you still have a better program that awaits for you, just in case you're not invited for this Fall. For those who deferred or denied, same good things out there and for those were accepted, THINK IT SO MANY TIMES, "WILL IT BE WORTH IT TO TAKE THE RISK AND PAY $53K OR JUST WAIT AND REALIZE THAT WAITING IS WORTH AT THE END"

Just my humble opinion for everybody especially during this economic downturn.
