MOT sticker (important for car owners)

Cheers Whisper, my cars not old enough for one yet, but that's news to me. I'll let everyone know in work. Strange the PCT hasn't told us about that one. We usually have to present documentation to prove we are roadworthy in our vehicles and covered on the insurance for buisness.

I only learned today, but others I aksed who had just had an MOT said the same... strange that the sticker is the same colour every year though. I thought it would change like the tax disk colour.

I think an MOT test is a UK only thing, it is a test to prove that your care is road worthy every car int he Uk must be tested every year once the car is 3 years old (I think).

They check emissions, brakes, windscreens, seatbelts suspension and other important bits that I have no clue what they are called. You need a valid MOT certificate as well as your insurance documentation to get your road tax.

Sorry I can not remember what MOT stands for though, hope that helps a bit.

Sometimes I wish that we had something like that here. When I see cracked windshields, cars with parts missing, or broken headlights or tail-lights, I wonder how safe the cars are to drive. In general, the cars in the UK are in much better shape. They cost a lot more, too.

I thought every country had a version of an MOT... :rolleyes: we still have a lot of old bangers on the road, I drive one of them, but if your car doesn't have an MOT or a road tax you can get a fine, a prison sentence and without a road tax your car can be crushed into a cube!

My car failed its MOT, on the brake pipes (I had no idea that brakes had pipes) So i had to pay for them to be replaced before I got my all important MOT, no matter how much I moan about the cost and having to sort out taking my car to a garage I think the MOT is a good thing, I had no clue I was driving around with my brakes failing and probably would have been unaware until I had hit something.

Thanks for notice, I had no idea that this was a legal requirement!! After my MOT last time, the mechanic gave me one of those but said it was up to me what I did with it!! So it went in the bin, as I always know when my MOT is due. You would have thought that the DVLA would have notified everyone.

Recently had my MOT done - DEC 2003 and I didnt get anything to stick in my window, so I checked out the Ministry of transport site. It appears this was released Feb/Mar last year (They kept that quiet). The stickers are not compulsary but I think they should be, agree that the MOT is a good idea, the thought of driving in a defective car would be scary.

DRIVERS TO BE GIVEN GENTLE MOT REMINDERS

Drivers will be given a gentle reminder to make sure their vehicles are MOT tested on time under an initiative announced by Transport Minister John Spellar.

MOT testers will issue stickers to drivers to remind them when their next test is due. The stickers are designed to be placed inside the windscreen.

John Spellar said:

"Reminder stickers are a simple but effective way of reminding drivers when to take their vehicles for an MOT. The test is a vital way of ensuring vehicles meet the basic safety and environmental protection standards required by law."

"Many of us lead increasingly busy lives and as a consequence some drivers may simply forget to take their car for an MOT. The reminder sticker will help ensure this does not happen."

The stickers are not compulsory, but their use is supported by the Motorists' Forum, trade groups and the Association of Chief Police Officers.
