I have 5 pre-reqs to go and I am ready to be done with them...lol. So I am taking Oral Communication and Micro in the fall that leaves me with:
Human Body-Holistic
Nursing Pharmacology
Pathophysiology
Question 1, I have winter and spring to finish these in order to apply for Fall 09. Are these classes that I can do together and still get A's or is this too hard when combined together?
2. If not taken together, which 2 would you take together in the winter and the one by itself in Spring.
3. If I combine them, what happens to my financial aid if I am off for spring, summer, and possible longer if not accepted?
Lastly, I have read that Macomb is basing their entrance for 2010 on all required credits. I recieved a not so great grade on AP 1, so would it be a good idea to repeat this class at Macomb for a higher grade if I am not accepted the first time? Macomb told me that they do not hold against you if you repeat a class for a better grade, what do you think?
Thanks!!
I go to Baker of Flint and we didn't have the NET test...the HESI covered all of the areas (math, vocabulary, grammer, reading comprehension, a&p, a personality profile and perhaps another area I'm forgetting).I agree that there should be an essay portion, or maybe even an interview, but then again that could spark controversy as well because it would be a subjective score. There's a lot of gray area in that.
The last class to get into baker flint had like 54 (or something like that, my point is that the ratio those who got in:those that applied is low) students apply and 30 got in. The ratio there is much better than the ratio of students that got into the class at clinton twp. Clinton Twp had 152 apply and the last I heard they took to number 41 (although that might have changed, will find out tomorrow). Me... being number 46 is curious to find out where they are on the list. According to the registration page, there is still one seat not registered for. I am holding out hope but not holding my breath... LOL
The HESI does cover more stuff than the NET. I got the study guide on Tuesday so I could study for the test at Macomb.
I have heard mixed reviews about Baker's program. I haven't heard that it was highly regarded. My sil works for a local hospital and she said she had a top-of-her-class Baker student who ended up quitting because she couldn't take the pressure. She actually approached me about it, because she wants to make sure that I don't end up as unprepared as this woman was. On the other hand, I have heard positive feed back from a few places, I have taken my children for care. I also have a friend who graduated from Baker and was let go from two jobs before she finally found a place she was comfortable. Like I said, it is mixed.
Another thing about Baker that I don't like is that they have you take so many prereq's. If, for some reason, I don't get into Baker's program this spring, I have taken a whole bunch of classes that I wouldn't have needed to get into any other program. Those other programs have nurses graduate that are just as prepared as the graduates coming out of Baker.

Hi Gemberly,
I don't know if I told you this but my girlfriend was number 41 at Baker this time. What are you going to find out tomorrow? Do you think you have a chance of starting in the fall. Keep thinking positive!!!!! We wil definitely be in for the spring time. Anyway, next week I am going to the MCC library. They have the Plato software and several practice Hesi tests. Let me know if you find out anything about Baker. We should have applied to Flint, we would be in already!!!!

I think that if we don't get in in the spring, we should car pool to Flint. LOL I might sound like I am joking... but seriously... it is on my list of back up plans!
I am going down to the school tomorrow. I have a plan to talk to someone. I know that every year there are a few who don't get all their paperwork or fail the criminal clearance or drug screen. I don't know if they take other students in those spots, but I know I would pass all those things!! I am a foster mom and just had to do my fbi check, and health assessment, tb test... and all that business. I wish I could start. I am just shocked I didn't get in.
I tried to get signed up for the Plato stuff. They said that they are supposed to send me an email, but I never got one.

I want so badly for you to get in (even if I didn't, haha!!!) I keep thinking about how close you were. I would be so happy for you if you had a spot. Please let me know what they say tomorrow. You never know, there may be a spot!!! I know how hard you worked for this and everything that you have been through. FYI, I was also a foster mother at one point. Both of my children are adopted. What agency are you through? I was Catholic Social Services.
I don't know where you guys are hearing some of this stuff about Baker Flint--rumors must abound on here. When I applied last semester, somewhere around 120 applied with me and 40 of us got in. Also, I start classes in two weeks, and have never given anyone $100 to "hold my place".
But yeah, the dean of nursing had told me a few months ago about how every semester there are people who get accepted into the program who deny the position and never come back (which makes absolutely no sense to me, but whatever). She said that they always go back through and accept a few more in.

Is Flint the same as Clinton Twp., by that I mean is there another application process in the spring?
Does Baker require that you pay $100 to hold the spot? Maybe some of the students can not come up with it.
No, MCC does that, but not Baker.
J, I am adopting my foster daughter. I have had her for 2.5 years. She is 3. I go through the Macomb County DHS. I had to get licensed to be able to adopt her and get the subsidy. I would have adopted her without it, but, I think the extra money is worth the hassle!
FutureRN, I had a friend just call up there and that is the information they gave her. I am so tired of hearing different information from different sources, at the same building. It is like trying to deal with government! LOL
Baker Flint's applications are for Fall and Winter semesters. They don't accept any new students into the program in spring (probably because it'd be a waste of knowledge...you get the summer off in the program, and lord knows it only takes one semester to forget everything you just learned).
if you talk to anyone at Baker of Flint, you have to make sure that it's someone from the actual nursing program...Sandy Manssur is our Dean of Nursing, Phyllis Sano the assistant dean, and Michelle Curtin knows her stuff, too. The general ed. counselors always seem clueless about the nursing program, and tend to give out wrong info. Lol, so yeah, it is kind of like the government in that you have to talk to the right person or you'll just get fed a lot of BS.
if you are able to go to Baker Flint to the faculty offices on the second floor (D wing), that'd be an even better bet. They have a lot of packets and other such things that are full of helpful information, and they go to great lengths to answer your questions and get you what you need. I've gone to other colleges, but nowhere I've been is nearly as helpful as those at Baker of Flint.

?? Clinton Twp. Starts in the spring. I don't think that the reasoning is because people will forget it. If that were true, then everyone would be screwed when they graduated!
I passed on the information you wrote earlier to those involved that I know, so she can check it out again.

Futurern, if you don't mind my asking, what was you Hesi score and GPA. Is Flint as competitive as Clinton Twp.?
