hi guys.. i took my first nclex-rn last friday with the computer shutting off at 180 questions with 1 and a half hours left.. i think my anxiety got ahead of me because i was praying that the comp would stop at 75. i got 4-5 sata's, few infxn, 1 ekg strip, 2 math, lots of priority and delegation questions.. i did the pearson vue trick last night and didn't get the good pop up, only saw that the delivery of my nclex to the chosen state BON was delivered successfully.
guys what am i to do? i'm in the stage of denial but really want to move on. i feel sorry for my dad having to waste a big sum of money for me to take nclex again. my parents were really confident that i'd pass my first try considering i was an honor student all throughout my years of studying. when i told them the news they said "it's ok jenny, you can take it again next time and pass.. we have faith in you and God has a plan. don't give up" it hurt me having to see them utter those words and i hate myself for having failed them. guys what can i do to move on? what can i study to pass next time?
i'm 21 years old and 7 months pregnant.both dad and my hubby are the ones shouldering my review expenses, but dad insists he spend more because he understands that hubby is still in college( senior year ).i feel so ashamed at my parents.. i am so lucky to have parents like them still supporting me after the trouble i caused them, getting myself pregnant and failing the exam that would change my whole life. pls advise me. should i rest for a few days and then start studying again? i plan on retaking nclex asap, maybe by november after giving birth.."time is gold" is my present motto. :) God please help me
Lippincott Q and A. 6000 questions by the time you are done, its almost like you took a full review class.its $30 online. Dont waste your money on a review class, you have the knowledge from school, you just need to be familiar with the questions.
ohiostudent: are the questions in the lippincott book hard? i want them to be as hard and tough as the real nclex questions..i'm kinda in a tough budget now so 30dollars seem reasonable lol.. thanks
I know exactly where you are coming from. The only thing I thought when I walked out of the testing center after my nclex was "Gosh i hope I dont let my parents down". I always wanted to be a nurse and I ended up getting pregnant when I was 18. Some of my family members said "there goes her schooling". I was determined to prove them wrong and finish school so I could provide for my baby. Congrats on your pregnancy and use that wonderful baby as extra motivation. I graduated in May and took the nclex yesterday, found out I passed today. I did the kaplan in class and online. I would suggest the kaplan online if you want to answer a lot of questions. The kaplan questions in my opinion are WAY more difficult than the nclex so if you're able to do well with kaplan, you should have no problem passing the nclex next time. Good luck dear!
i'm considering on getting the kaplan qbank:) gosh i really do hope i get my RN license this time around.. how old were you when you got your license? my mom keeps telling me to hurry in finishing my studies, they're getting old and want to retire lol..so that someday i could provide for them :)
Your story reminds me of mine when it comes to the parents, IT Really does hurt cause I hated to disappoint them. It will be okay your parents are still proud of you. Keep your head up. You have done an awesome job In Nursing school by being an honor student. This is just one test and you will pass it. This to shall pass! God is always with us. Good luck and God bless you and your precious baby!
we can do this liyah:) all we need right now are prayers and good study plan.. update me on how your study routine is going. i'll be praying for all retakers that this year will be a good one for us :)
If it makes you feel any better... I just failed my 2nd time and I'm 6months pregnant. Talk about disappointment. Its definitely anxiety and confidence that I need to master because I know my stuff...I just felt a tremendous amount of pressure to hurry and pass since I'm working as a tech until I pass. My boss can only hold my job one more time so talk about pressure... On top of that I will be 7.5 months pregnant before I can retest, so she is a little worried about starting me on orientation only to have to retrain me after maternity leave...
I'm looking at all of this as a sign from GOD that maybe I need to start AFTER baby is born. Congrats on your baby!! We will get through this :) We've already done the hard part, Nursing school!
oh my gosh those are the same things i thought when i found out i failed..maybe God wants a different time and place for us to get our goals. even though it hurts to fail, we can't do anything because we can't bring the past back.. all we can do is prepare ourselves for the unexpected, and hope that maybe next time, we pass :) goodluck to us on the nclex and our deliveries..hehe
Jujhen- I'm 22 now and just got my license. It IS possible to get your license with a little one.. Just more hard work! But I'd suggest trying to take it before baby. Your whole life is going to be about the little one once he/she is born :-)
thank you so much for your tip friend:) yes i will keep that in mind
Awww....I'm so sorry you feel the way you do. Sounds to me as though your parents are very understanding and in no way did you disappoint them. You should definitely be proud of what you have accomplished so far. Not passing the NCLEX exam may be a minor set back, but you can use the experience as a stepping stone/learning experience to pass the second time around.
I have never taken the NCLEX exam as I am a second year LPN student, but I suggest that you purchase some review books if you haven't already done so. I have already purchased Saunders and Kaplan review books and I find them both very informative and helpful. I plan on buying more as my time to take the exam gets closer.
I would definitely try to take the exam again before the baby is born. That way you should be able to concentrate more on studying and the information will be fresh in your mind for the next time.
Please don't feel down on yourself. I'm sure things will be looking up for you real soon! BTW.....Congratulations on your soon-to-be new baby!
From my experience you do not want to take the test again before the baby is born. i took it 5 days before the baby was born it was so stressful that i delivered 3 weeks before my due date. Enjoy the your baby and relax. I took a review course in Los Angeles,CA every Saturday for 1 month it helped me alot in how to study for nclex i took the test after 6 weeks of taking that course and I passed my baby now is 1 year old. Goodluck to you and your baby.
