Hi! Is there anything that you wish you would've known before starting the Nursing program that you know now thats worth noting? Also, do you know what the stats were of your cohort? TEAS scores? prerequisite grades? GPA? etc. Anything helps as I am anxiously waiting for the end of the month!
thanks ?

WOW! CONGRATS on making it this far!
I have so many questions but the most burning questions I have are .. what is the class/clincal schedule like first semester? Does it change in the 2nd semester?
I know chem is not a prereq for MC but it is for UMSON. I had an F and a C in that class. I have a B in A&P I, C in A& P II and A in Micro. A in Pathophysiology(had to take it cause of old A&P) , have a Bsc and all the prereqs completed TEAS was 88.
Do you think I have hope in getting in at MC? Be honest. & if I do get in, who will accept me to finish my BSN because of my horrible Chem grade? it seems like that one grade is haunting me
ty so much

Hi @jbren, I wish I would have known how much time really youll truly be devoting to school. You will miss out on a lot during nursing school. You will lose friends who can not understand why you're so busy but you will gain a lot of new friends. I don't know what my classmates got because no one cared to compare.
Hi @cmg9311
Thank you so much for offering to help!!
What is the best way to study during nursing school? How many times a week do you spend studying? How long in advance do you start preparing for a test? I have heard many times that the nursing exams are tricky and all of the answers choice sound correct. How true is that? Are students allowed to record lectures during class? I am sorry I am asking so many questions but, I want to start getting mentally prepared!

Hi @QueenB,
What is your calculated science and overall GPA? TEAS is awesome. For chem 1, I got a C and then retook it for a B. If you have a C in AP2, I recommend you try and retake it. For UMSON, your science prereq GPA needs to be 2.75, thats for chem 1, ap 1, ap 2 and micro. Your overall GPA needs to be 3.0. There are many programs out there besides UMSON!

Thanks for that! ? Did you have other courses to take other than your Nursing courses? Like the foundations courses, psychs, soc, etc. etc. or did you complete this prior to starting the program? I saw that you're doing the dual enrollment program, I'm hoping to also. Is acceptance to the program very slim?
It's awesome that you learned that early on and have made it as far as you have already! Do you work also? I don't plan to but do you think it is manageable?

Hi @Tatiana Berrios,
I recommend that as soon as lecture is done, schedule an appointment with the professor. Just go over what you learned and ask questions. You start studying as soon as your learn the material. It is A LOT to take in. If you wait too long to study, you will be piling on too much information. The exams don't try and trick you but they are trying to make you think as a nurse. So all of the answers could be correct but there is a PRIORITY answer, a choice that in the real world you would have to do FIRST. Yes, you can record lectures. GET A STUDY GROUP!! This is something I can't stress enough. I am a complete introvert and didn't care to make friends. I planned on just studying alone and keeping a low profile. Boy, I was wrong. I made such great friends and they will understand things that maybe you don't. You will be meeting with your study groups A LOT, they will become family. Everyone has a different way of studying, but personally my group and I do flashcards.

No, I entered the program with my bachelors and all prereqs already completed. To make it into UMSON, you just need a 2.75 science GPA and 3.0 overall GPA, as long as you meet those requirements, you will be accepted.
I do work and its manageable. I only work 25-30 hours a week. I have some classmates who are mothers and work full time. It's all manageable if you can manage your time!
5 minutes ago, jbren said:@cmg9311 OH! So, it was mentioned before that MC discourages re-taking courses for a higher grade (sciences)...in your experience, is this true? I hadn't heard of that before but now I am curious if maybe that is specific to the Nursing program?
That was never mentioned to us. I retook a lot of courses prior to the nursing program.

Thank you so much for your answer and advice!! It is very satisfying to hear how students support each other and I will definitely get on a study group!!

My overall GPA is just above 3.0... I havent calculated my GPA for all of my science courses but I know I meet the requirement for MC but Not umd.
How do the students with kids manage? I have little ones and they’re not potty trained yet. I am debating if I should do my masters instead although I really want to be a Nurse.
