Montgomery College Nursing Fall 2020

Published

Hello everyone ?!! I decided to create this thread for anyone applying to Montgomery College Fall 2020 nursing program. Did you guys finish all your priority courses? Are you guys still getting prepare to take the TEAS? Did you guys already take TEAS? Have you guys already submitted your application? By the way, the deadline is April 1st. Come and share your progress and let's support each other through this entire journey. Hope to hear from you all!!

@cmg9311 hi again! Thanks for all of the info so far! It’s nice knowing there are people in similar situations (retaking courses) succeeding in the program! It’s definitely encouraging! I do actually have another question...

As far as expenses go, what extra things (aside from tuition and books) were you responsible for to start? Castlebranch, immunizations, uniforms, stethoscope, any other “supplies”? As far as the uniform, do we get it all through the school or do we have to go to a uniform store? If so, what color? Lastly, specific shoe requirements for clinicals?

I realize I’m getting way ahead of myself buuuuut it would be nice to get an idea so I can anticipate these expenses sooner rather than later...whether that be this fall or Spring or at Hagerstown. ??‍♀️ LOL

Oh, and do you recommend anyone in particular for Micro? ?

thanks again for letting us pick your brain!

@jbren,

Pretty much all you listed: uniforms (I got 2 sets so that I could rotate and wash them). The school will give you a form to fill out for uniforms, they work with one specific store and you HAVE to get it from there. You have to buy shoes that are ALL white, and wear white socks that go above the ankle.

These are the shoes I bought after doing a lot of research:

https://www.skechers.com/en-us/style/11931/d-lites-fresh-start/wsl

If you want those shoes, get it as soon as possible. When it was about 2 weeks before school started, those shoes were sold out nearly everywhere.

I took Micro YEARS ago, the professor I had is no longer there. So, I have no idea who is teaching Micro and who to recommend.

Hi@jbren

For Microbiology, I truly recommend Prof. ********** in Rockville I took Microbiology with him last Fall semester and he is awesome. I struggled a lot with science and I was able to get B in his class. His class fills out super fast, so if you decide to take Micro with him you will have to sign up as soon as registration opens.

Thanks! I'll look into it! Do the shoes have to be all leather?

We don't need a blood pressure cuff, pen light, surgical scissors or any other supplies other than a stethoscope? Those things were on Hagerstown's list, but I won't purchase yet if MC doesn't require them until decisions go out!

Are there any reference books or "pocket guides" that you recommend that aren't required but have been helpful to you?

Thank you @Tatiana Berrios ! In the Zoom info session back in April, Prof Matthews didn’t want to give a time frame because they are all working from home now, thanks to Covid:/ did that change?

I don't know if there have been any changes, but I remember that Prof. Matthews said that orientation is between the 3rd or 4th week of June, and student should be receiving their letter the latest the first week of June.
