Montgomery College, how long?

Published

I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?

Thx,

I saw that last year's applicants heard back in early May too. I wonder why it's taking them so much longer for us. Maybe something to do with the extended application due date? I think last year they were due by March 1 and this year they were due April 1. So maybe we won't hear until the first few days of June?

I think you should just go for the class if you'll eventually need it for the BSN.

It's frustrating. I, too am trying to plan out my summer and that depends on the darn letter.

Nikki-you brought up a good point about the 1 credit course. But, I guess that's also contingent upon the acceptance. When does it start?...enough time to drop if not accepted? And can that course be transferred?

Oh...Yesterday, when I got the mail, I saw an envelope addressed from MC... my heart skipped a beat... I kept looking at it, then I realized it was from the financial aid office. Anyone have experience with the app. process? I thought I'd give it a shot to see if I quality for anything.

I think Marissa is tired of us stressing out so much LOL...

Ya, I think Marissa is staying clear ;-)

The 1 credit nursing class I believe starts the 2nd summer session. It is M-Th from like 9am until sometime early afternoon I think. It seemed like an awful lot to me for a 1 credit class and I certainly didn't want to be driving down that way at that time in the morning. If you stay with MC then it would count towards your credit in the program but not if you transfer to UMD.

I registered for the nutrition class the first summer session but once I told DH the tuition due he is thinking maybe I not do it now. Seriously though, I think summer classes should be cheaper since you aren't getting the same quality education because it is so fast paced and condensed.

I'm not sure about summer classes being cheaper. I think the tuition and fees are solely based on credit hrs. Who's the instructor for nutrition?

Yeah, they are based on credit hours. It was just my opinion. The instructor is Alyson Escobar. I am eyeing the stats class for the 2nd session. Was it you who had that instructor I was looking at? I forget his name. I'd like to know more about how difficult the stats class is for summer. I am not great at math but I know that should I not get into MC's nursing program I will be taking chemistry in the fall and I don't want to take that with statistics. Yuck! On a positive note, my husband just told me that his boss approved him telecommuting on wed so I could attend the nutrition class. That was a shock. He has asked before about telecommuting and was always told no. But this is a new guy who is open to the idea so this could open up a whole new opportunity for my husband. At least something good comes out of it if I don't end up going. Lol.

Ya, it was me. I had Kotz. I think his first name is Brian. I felt the course wasn't difficult but a lot to cover in a short pd. Once I had a good grasp of the foundation, it became a lot easier. The last math class I took before Stat was yrs ago so I was a bit nervous. He's a very good instructor and takes the time to explain things well. If I remember correctly, we had two exams and a final. It's a lot of graphing and most of it calculator work. Get yourself a good one. I think I had a TI-82 or 83, which I borrowed from a friend. In the end, I thought I'd finish w/ a B, but got an A. Do the practice homework (not collected) and you should be fine.

That's great news about telecommuting. Why won't more co. do that?!

Kristian - I was planning on taking the stats class online. Is that a mistake? I am currently also registered for the human development psych class but am waitlisted, and as stated before, I think that would interest me so I'd rather not rush through it during the summer and take it during a normal semester. Do you still have your nutrition book? Nutrition by Sizer 12th edition is what we would be using. I won't pay over $100 for it. I've found new international editions online and may just do that. I've used international editions before and it is the same thing as the US version and a lot cheaper. But DH still hasn't given me a final answer.

I haven't taken an online class so I don't have a comparison. I guess that would depend on the type of learner you are. You have access to tons of resources on line, but being in class gives the opportunity to ask/listen to questions. If you have concerns about how well you'll do, it may be best to take it on campus. I rented my textbook. I think it was a different author. Some of my classmates had the international version. Aside from diff. pg #, it was about the same.

Thanks for the input Kristian. I took BI107 online and that was a huge mistake but since I had to basically teach it to myself I think I ended up learning more. And even though I took both A&P courses in-class, my prof wasn't the best and so I reviewed a lot on my own. I took sociology online last summer too and that was really simple. I would assume I could go to the math center for tutoring if needed (there is a math center, right?).

Whatever you decide, you will do well. Yes, there is a math center.

Thanks Kristian. Can you share what the nutrition class is like? I just can't seem to make a definitive decision. I keep changing my mind every 10 minutes.
