I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?
Thx,
Nikki
Well here we go again with the run around girls. I still didn't get anything in the mail from MC so I decided to call admissions again. Since we were told they'd be going out this week I thought I'd at least be told when they were sent. Bad news...now they are telling me next week. The lady I spoke too (w/an accent) first told me this week, then put me on hold as if to double check with someone, came back on and told me next week. So I guess that really is more like the end of the month.
Hey everyone! I just found this thread. I too am still anxiously awaiting a reply from MC. I had also applied to UMB at Shady Grove but didn't get in, so this is my last resort and if I don't make the cut I am going to be sooo disappointed. I called the admissions lady too this past week and she said the letters would be mailed out next week. I wanted to ask "Next week, Monday...or next week, Friday??" because that would make all the difference as to when we'll actually receive them! But she already sounded a little huffy, so I didn't bother lol. I hope we all hear back very soon...the waiting is killing me! Glad I found this thread :)
Just wanted to share my stats for informational and comparative purposes:
Cumulative GPA: 3.38
Biology: A
A&P I: C (taken as a summer course...not highly recommended!!!)
A&P II: A
Micro: A
Overall TEAS score: 87.1%
Reading: 92.5%
Math: 91.1%
Science: 83.3%
English: 85.5%
I have taken all of my non-nursing courses for MC and pre-reqs for a BSN program, including Statistics (B), Chemistry (B), and Nutrition (A). I was on the Dean's List in Spring 2010 and Fall 2010, but I STILL didn't make it into my top choice school, UMB I'm a little depressed about it, but I think it may have been a blessing in disguise. I am married and have a 4 year old son and I honestly don't know how taking 17-18 credits per semester would have affected my family, but I'm fairly certain it wouldn't have been pretty.
I'm hoping to transfer to UMB's RN-BSN program after getting my ADN from MC but I also want to be working as soon as possible, so I will have to wait and see what happens...
Looking forward to getting to know many of you once we get our letters. Keeping my fingers crossed we know SOMETHING by this time next week :)
Hello MomBak
Glad you found us. I am shocked MDSG didn't accept you. Your TEAS scores are awesome and your GPA is pretty good too. I am sure you will get in to MC with those scores and having all those other classes. I have been debating whether to go for the BSN or CNL. My husband finally concluded I should just get the ADN and then if I can't find a job, I can go back to do the RN-MS or RN-BSN program at UMD. My goal was to find an employer willing to pay for my BSN but with the economy the way it is that might not happen. But my husband said that if I don't find a job and I do go back to school, I can at least keep looking while I am in school. Would be tough as I too have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. But we do what we have to do. Everthing worth having is worth working for, right?
The three of us on this thread have found that depending on who we ask we keep getting different answers on when the letters will go out. We were told before they were going out last week. Then by Thurs, when I still hadn't gotten anything, I called again and was told next week. I'm not sure anyone there really knows. It is certainly frustrating and making us all crazy.
Hope to hear good news from all next week, and have some good news of my own!
Nikkki
Thanks for the welcome Nikki!
I totally forgot that Maryland has the RN-MSN program! I'll have to look into that more diligently when the time comes around.
I definitely want to pursue post-graduate level nursing. I am trying to decide between being a nurse practitioner or a nurse anesthetist. However, I think I want to work for at least a year or two as an R.N. before making my final decision.
My husband says the same thing about getting my ADN. He says to take baby steps instead of trying to make one giant leap, as I so often try to do! I'm only worried about job competition, but I suppose whatever's meant to happen will happen...
I'm glad to hear of someone else going into this with a family to also take care of. It's very stressful, but I'm hoping to get extremely organized around the house this summer so that my transition into nursing school (hopefully) will be a much smoother one.
Fingers crossed for good news for us all very soon :)
Hey MomBak2Skool!
Welcome! Glad you found us. Sounds like everyone's on the same wavelength with getting the ADN first. We don't have any children (yet) so our lives prob. are not as hectic as yours. I, too am looking into the BSN-MSN route in the future-nurse anesth. For now, it would be nice to know we will be starting the program in the fall. Keeping my fingers crossed as well! BTW, your teas score and GPA are great, nice work! Talk to you all later!

I agree with you both 100%. And that has been my goal. I want to get in the job market ASAP. I know the option is there to go on for a BSN after that point. And believe that if I make myself stand out and make contacts I should have no problem getting a position. Thanks for the support girls. I've decided to stick with MC and go the UMD route as my backup plan. I've registered for summer classes (to hole a spot) for the human development and nutrition classes and I have statistics for fall and would likely add chemistry to it. That way if I don't get in to MC I can complete these other prereqs quickly and apply for UMD in the spring.
I sincerely appreciate your support and encouragement. Perhaps we can all get together over the summer, pending good news, to meet in person.
