Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
Yeah, for this reading assign. most of the chapters seem like common sense stuff. Did you get better sleep last night? Sorry about the interview. Wow, she wasn't even dressed appropriately for an interview? The older lady seems promising.
I'm thinking about going to Target/Kmart or Walmart for some school supplies. Do you think they have better prices than Staples or Office Depot for notebooks, pads, index cards, pens, pencils?
I did sleep better, thanks. And had a harder time getting up to take my son to swim class.
I was at 5 Below the other day and was able to get some school supplies. I got a 5 subject notebook for $5 and a smaller notebook to bring to clinicals/lab. They didn't have the kind of pens I wanted so I didn't buy any. I wasn't looking for notecards at the time so I don't know if they had any. I think Target, etc are always cheaper than Staples, etc. You can also check dollar stores.
this looks like a good index card keeper/organizer
or
these look like the badge clips Fendors sold but here you get 4 for about the price they were selling one. Maybe we should all go buy bulk and split the costs? LOL
What a disappointment Nikki! I don't understand how people in today's struggling economy would not try their absolute hardest to make a positive first impression which, everyone should know, includes professional attire. Even if you're applying for a janitor or trashman position...you need to look like you're serious about the job you're applying for. I think you handled the situation well and I'll keep my fingers crossed that the next interview is much better :)
Target and Wal-Mart would definitely be better than Staples. Unfortunately we don't have any Wal-Marts close by and Target's selection isn't always the best. I didn't think I'd be able to find the key rings I was looking for but I found all kinds of sizes, colors, etc. at Staples. I forgot to look for a pocket notebook while I was there! Darn it! Oh well, I'm sure I'll have to go back before school starts.
I've already started putting the Key Terms on my note cards and you guys are right....BORING!!! I feel like an idiot writing this stuff down cuz it seems so basic but then again, I don't want a "basic" key term to stump me on an exam. I've learned one useful thing so far: the acronym SOLER (active listening techniques).
I got the MMR and Hep B vax together...why? Is that bad? I go back for my second doses on the 8th.
Is there anything I should know or consider before buying this nursing kit? I really want to order it soon (like maybe today) before they run out of stock. I know we're not the only students in the market for a nursing kit this summer! Do you think the price is comparable to that of what they were showing yesterday? Here it is again in case you forgot what's in it:

Only thing about this kit: the only way I can get my full name engraved on it is if I get it on the tubing which I've heard can rub off rather easily. If I want the chestpiece engraved, it will only do up to 3 letters. Do you think I can get it engraved somewhere else? Even if I don't purchase it from the same place? Do you think the price will be decent compared to what Redding is offering?

Kristian - I have all of those except Kada.
Andrea - the spiral bound notecards sound like a good idea. I only read a couple pages before bed. I was falling asleep. I had taken a sleep aid since I hadn't been sleeping well in days. But the content was soooooooo boring. I think I stopped where the chapter is really going to get moving with info we would need to know for an exam.
Ugh, the interview was not good. She showed up with a deep cut black halter top w/a large accessory drawing even more attention to the girl (which weren't perky), short cut off jean shorts with a black studded belt. Hair swept back in a ponytail like she was off to the pool. Absolutely no effort. She was 5 minutes late and still didn't bring her resume after multiple requests and reminders. She had another excuse for that. Something she seems to do frequently.
She immediately told me of her handicap and why she hadn't mentioned it before. I spoke with her a couple minutes before telling her I didn't think it would work because of my youngest's significant speech delay and she agreed it wouldn't be a good fit. So I basically told her I am looking for a couple of backups in case the regular sitter can't make it on occassion and that I'd keep her in mind. I guess I felt badly about her disability.
Anyhow, next interview on Friday morning with a lady who was a grandmother caring for her granddaughter who will be off at school full time now. She looks promising on the website and via email conversation.
