Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Good luck today ladies! Can't wait to hear all about it! :)

Thanks Andrea! One of us will be on here later to post about it with all the details and, ugh, reading assignment. I wonder if there will be a paper to write based on this reading assignment.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was...That's what the APA publication manual is definitely for--writing papers! :p I got mine with my other books and I got the Stedman's Medical Dictionary (don't remember seeing a list of recommended dictionaries on the list either though). I've heard that there are absolutely alot of essays in nursing school so...be prepared! Hope you guys get the schedules you want! :)

Thanks Andrea! We'll update you later today!

Wow, I'm shocked I beat Kristian to it. :-)

We decided to carpool and I got a low number while she got a high number but we basically got what we wanted. Bad news was that the clinical we wanted (SG afternoon) was cancelled.

Here is my schedule:

M: NU105 10-10:50

NU110 12-3:50

T/W: Montgomery General 3-8:10

F: NU121 10-12:50

Homework:

Read:

1. Fundamentals of Nursing - chapters 24 (communication), 34 (infection prevention and control pgs 642-669), 38 (client safety): complete by 8/29

2. Calculating w/confidence (long list of chapters you will get at registration; to prepare for dosage calculation test; will provide details/deadline then)

3. ATI - purchase manual online and complete Infection COntrol skills module by 8/29

Wow, it's kind of relieving to know that even though Kristian got a high #, she still got pretty much what she wanted. I hope I have your luck on Thursday by getting a low #. I have so many questions so I'm gonna number them lol:

1. Was it pretty much a "pick a number out of the bowl" type of thing?

2. How early did you guys get there?

3. About how many people were there?

4. Was anyone late that didn't get to draw in the first lottery? How was that handled?

5. Did you notice a high demand for any particular clinical/class? (Although, I think Professor Matthews said there would be an equal number available for both groups)

6. Was it helpful to bring the course #s or did they register for you?

7. Did it really take 4 hours??

8. What was your overall feel of it? Organized? Prepared? Smoothly run?

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for the inquistion! Lol I'm so curious and nervous and anxious and excited all at once!

That is a HUGE assignment!!! I thought the ATI was purchased at the book store? Can it also be purchased on-line then? We should try to do some kind of study group, even if it's only on-line. Like, say we discuss CH. 24 in Fundamentals, 1 chapter from Calculating..., and 1 section from ATI on a certain date, etc. We only have 4 weeks so we really have alot to do before then! Kind of bummed about the homework but at the same time excited that something is finally getting started! :)

1. Yes, we picked a number out of what looked like a travel makeup bag.

2. We got there about 30 minutes prior but there were a ton of people already there. I think they had the same notion I did, first come first serve.

3. There were at least 50 there.

4. They shut the doors at noon. Anyone who came late had to wait to come in until those who were on time drew their number.

5. It seemed to me that a lot of people wanted take all their classes on Monday and get the clinical over in one day as well.

6. You don't need the course numbers. Just have your day/time and they will write the course number on your registration form.

7. I pulled #9. If I hadn't carpooled with Kristian I probably would have been outta there by 2. Kristian pulled #33 and I think she was done around 3:30 but we stayed and chatted with some fellow classmates a few minutes after.

8. I think it went fairly smoothly. I think they should have informed the students of the elimination of the afternoon clinical at shady grove so those who wanted that had time to make changes but I guess that is why we are supposed to have 2-3 options. The staff was sooooo nice, organized and on time.

I thought the vendor for the uniforms would have more on hand for us to view and even try on but that wasn't the case. I thought one of the lady vendors had a stick up her ass but that is just my opinion. ;-)

I can't even wrap my brain around how much reading we already have. I was thinking maybe one chapter and a short essay about ourselves or a short nursing assignment. But this is absurd.

I'm finally on now!

I was trying to register on line but the CRN# for 121 doesn't match the time that I was given. I emailed Prof. Matthews thinking she'll get back to me in the morning...she wrote me back. Some CRN #'s have not been updated yet and was told to hold registration.

Nikki pretty much summed up everything. I wouldn't be too worried if you get a high #, you should get at least your 2nd choice. Yeah some showed up late and had to wait to draw. Were they given a different set of #s? Otherwise, what would be the point, they'd still have an chance of drawing any remaining low #'s.

Yes, the faculty was very nice and helpful. I think we got lucky with a well-educated and caring staff. As for the vendor, it would have been nice to have more sizes to try on and scopes to play w/. They got mad at me for trying to test it out on Nikki. What's the point of it having them there if we can't be hands-on w/ it?!

We met a handful of other fellow students. I think we have a nice group of ppl to start the fall semester.

Kristian - are you going to go with the lightweight stetho? I think I am but I can't find a kit deal that has that model. I guess it doesn't matter much becuase buying separately wasn't that big of a deal. I think I am going to go with the caribbean blue color.

I was going to go online and price out/compare prices for the uniforms. I think it would be more convenient for Fendor to sew on the patches and all but if I can find something a lot cheaper then I will make due dealing with the patch myself.

I think I'm going w/ the Classic II. Do you remember if they said anything about engraving? I'm leaning towards the nurse kit on Redding. I originally thought I like the carribean blue, but now like the ceil blue.

Yeah, they are a bit pricey. I did, however put in an order for two sets, a lab coat, 2-sided badge holder and badge clip and 2 name tags. Thought it would be less of a headache to have them take care of the name tag, insignia and I won't have to shop around anymore.

They didn't mention anything about engraving. You ordered a lot. What did that come to $$$?

I think around $100. I didn't pay for it yet, suppose to get a call when it's ready.
