Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Thank you both for your support. I won't be relaxed until I'm cleared of any issues, but having the two of you here makes a huge difference! :)

I plan to do MG in the afternoon as a second clinical option. For classes, Mon and Fri is my 3rd option.

Glad to know we can help put your mind at ease, somewhat.

Just found this. Could be handy and I like how compact it is.

Not sure what the difference is between the two, for the cost. They are the same size and I don't see that the 2nd one includes any of the items.

Hope everyone has a happy 4th!

Do we need a BP cuff? I didn't see it on the list.

It's not required but it may be good to have on hand. I'd like to get plenty of practice taking BP.

Have a nice 4th, girls!!

Hope everyone had a great 4th!

I just got back from my followup from the doc:

I have immunity for Varicella and MMR. I got my 1st Hep B vaccine today. I had the PPD and Tdap last week and all is fine there. I've got my health form filled out by the doc and have copies of all my labs.

I'm still confused about the Varicella because different papers say different things. One sheet says 2 injections and a positive titer. Others say positive titer OR injections. I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing and I'm not missing anything.

Oh, and my nose was S. aureus but not MRSA. She said it should clear up after 10 days on the antibiotic. Yea!

So I think I am done! I just need to print off the copies from the background/criminal check and confirmation from the drug/alcohol test. And make a copy of my CPR cert.

Oh, and my DH found out he has pneumonia so even though he doesn't feel sick anymore he is home sick today and tomorrow. I am hoping to drive down the MC tomorrow to drop everything off. Can't believe it is all done. I feel relieved!

Oops, I meant to type make 2 copies of the drug/alc. confirmation.

Hi,

We had a quiet 4th, didn't do our annual ritual of watching the fireworks.

Great to hear things are good to go! Sorry to hear about your DH. I hope he gets better soon.

I just got back from picking up my cxr results (it would have taken 2-3 more days to get it in the mail), and I have my follow-up this Thu. I'm officially cleared-cxr is negative! I have copies already made for CPR and b/g confirmation (remember to make 2 copies for b/g). All I have left are results for Hep B titer and vaccine, if necessary and another titer for rubella in a couple more wks (had to MMR vaccine last wk cuz no immunity to rubella).

The health form and other papers have diff. requirements, so yeah it's confusing. For Varicella, I think it's a positive titer OR vaccines, not both. I'm also confused about MMR-proof of 2 adult vacc or positive titers to all 3. I have immunity to measles and mumps, but none for rubella. So I got the MMR vacc. Do I do a titer again or get the 2nd shot or both? How do you interpret that?

For some reason my posts are not updating in the correct order....post no. 465 should be before 464.

Hi girls,

I'm sorry that I've been missing in action these past few weeks. I have been doing a lot of research for my sister, going to doctor's appointments with her, chemo class, etc, etc. It's amazing what a full-time job it is to battle such an unpredictable disease. She had a liver biopsy performed on Thursday and a port put in her chest to get ready for chemo. The results from the biopsy will be in today and then they'll decide how they want to proceed--either chemo first and then surgery or the other way around. She's been so positive and in such high spirits that it keeps us optimistic about the future. Here's a link to the CaringBridge website that I set-up for her: www.caringbridge.org/visit/lisajoson.

We'll be getting a second opinion from the Hopkins doctors that we've been in contact with over the last two weeks (a medical oncologist and a surgical oncologist), once we have Kaiser's treatment plan. So far, she's only showing mild symptoms, so I think we have some time to be sure that we're getting the right treatment and right team for her. There are no second chances, esp. where surgery is involved.

As of now, I am planning on beginning the program this fall, but if it appears that my sister is going to need someone to help her full-time after surgery or once she begins chemo treatments, then I will take time off to be there for her. It pains me to think about putting off school, but I can't imagine not doing everything I can to help my sister.

I'll be in touch.

Marissa
