Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

I don't remember it specifying Kristian. But I just checked and mine is still in progress. I'll check again tomorrow.

Can someone please outline it for me in a "for dummies" manner...which vaccines we need, which titers we need, etc? I'm feeling so overwhelmed. I know the flu shot can wait until Oct. I know Andrea clarified it a bit last week but I'd appreciate a refresher if it isn't too much trouble. ;-)

Thanks Andrea. I think they are similar. There should be a link for the SparkChart on our older posts.

Nikki- my understanding: we need one dose of Tdap. We have to have positive titers for MMR, Hep B, Varicella. If not, start the vacc. So if you did the titers for these and any of them are low or neg. than start the vacc. process. (The NP told me to start w/ the titers cuz you can still have immunity even years after vaccs.) I never had Variella vacc, but had chicken pox-NP said to do titer cuz I may still have immunity. I don't remember being vaccinated for Hep B as a child so I wanted to go ahead w/ the shots, but she said do titers first...

Andrea, what do you think?

Isn't Varicella the same thing as chicken pox? It is the virus that causes it (and shingles).

Did you guys like micro (BI203)? I actually kind of miss it. I really enjoyed the lab for that class. Especially when we had practicals. It was kind of like being a forensic scientist. I could see myself doing that. But that would require chemistry and I HATE chemistry. I bet we have to take chemistry to do the RN to BSN though. Blech!

OK, so let me try this...we need, exactly...

Titers:

MMR

Hepatits B

Varicella

Vaccines/Tests:

PPD

Tdap

Did I get it right and am I missing something?

Yes, varicella is chicken pox, also virus that causes shingles.

I really enjoyed micro too. I loved identifying the unknowns!

Yes, I think you got it.

I gotta run out to take care of a few thing for my parents, "talk" to you all later!

Done with my physical! I still have to go to Lab Corp tomorrow for my CBC and UA. Yes Nikki, what you outlined sounds right. My insurance won't cover the titers so I'm getting them done at UMD next Tuesday. I hope they all come out positive! Lol

And I loved Micro too! My professor made it so fun and interesting! You do have to take Chem for the RN-BSN program, at least at UMD. But it wasn't too bad, and I took Organic Chem.

Andrea - did your doc say if LabCorp does the titers???? I have my physical tomorrow at 11 and have an appt at LabCorp at 3:30. What all did they do during your physical?

Check another to-do off your list! Woo hoo!

I got my Fundamentals textbook today. It's hefty.

Is organic easier than regular chemistry? It would probably be more interesting for me. You can take either organic or entry level chemistry to fulfill the requirement, right? Granted that is 2 years away.

Andrea, one more off the list!

I have PPD tomorrow...

Nikki, I think the chem requirement is CH 101 or 102.
