Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).
I agree Nikki. I'm sure we'll all get our fair share of embarassing moments with professors, nurses, and doctors alike but it's all part of the learning process. Not one successful nurse today can honestly say he/she didn't start out making mistakes and getting in trouble, but if we have support from our fellow peers I think we'll make it through okay! :)
Yes, I agree w/ you both. What I meant was instructors/preceptors being down right abusive to students time after time. And in some cases, singling out students to bully and intimidate. The only thing I've read about MC is about male students being singled out cuz the instructor had something against men in general.
Wow, that's terrible! Did they say which instructor in particular was doing this? That's horrible for the male students. It's hard enough for men to be confident enough with themselves to be a nurse in the first place, but then to be ridiculed and given more of a hard time in front of the rest of the class (which is a majority of girls) is just like rubbing salt in a wound. Did you find these testimonials on this website Kristian? Could you give us the link? I really hope that we get good professors that are respectful and at least a little sympathetic lol. I would hate for my first nursing school experience to be a negative one...
It took me a while to find it- on the second page, no names mentioned:

I think sometimes they forget that they were once in our shoes. Nurses unfortunately have a reputation of "eating their young". I don't understand why some do it. It's tough enough trying to start a career and after working one's tail off for a degree and state license, the last thing a person needs is have doubts about this profession. Women can be so evil to one another.
Hey ladies. I'm sorry that I haven't been more active on here. A lot of family health issues have been popping up, unfortunately. I'd like to suggest forming a support group, of sorts, for the four of us to get together each week or however often seems necessary, and discuss what's happened in class, clinicals, lab, etc, etc. At least we'll all have a sounding board, outside of family and friends, to air our grievances and good experiences, as well. Any thoughts?
That's fine with me. And, thank you for your concern. My sister just found out yesterday that she has colon cancer and we think my dad is starting to show the first signs of dementia. Alzheimer's runs in his family. His mom had it and 6 of his siblings either have it or have passed from it. The only sibling that didn't have it passed away from breast cancer in her early 60's. Very scary, to say the least. We took him in for neuropsychological testing (a 3 hour ordeal) and he's had an MRI. We will be taking him to Georgetown's Memory Disorders Clinic on July 1 to speak to a neurologist and some other specialists in memory disorders. My sister's having a CAT scan done on Friday to see if it has spread to any of her other organs. Then she meets with a surgeon on Monday. She's holding up really well under the circumstances. She doesn't want to worry too much until she knows more. She's 48. Okay, I feel better just getting all of that out.
Hi Marissa - sorry about the family health issues. I'm all for a group. We can create a yahoo group for us. I'm not sure how easy it would be to all get together at a mutually convenient time since our schedules will be different. I'd be willing to give it a shot. I'd be interested in study groups too.
I forgot, which one of you got that watch from ebay? I was eyeing one myself. It is listed for like $90 obo. Just wondering how low I can go.
Less than a week until orientation!
Wow, Marissa that's a lot to deal with. I'm so sorry. If it's any consolation, my dad was diagnosed with dementia about 3 years ago. He has good days and bad days. It's been hard on all of us.
Nikki, I got the watch off ebay...the Wenger. It was 89.95 or best offer. I offered 79.95...I should have gone lower, but I really like it and it arrived as described and very quickly. Make a fair offer and what you're ok w/ paying.
Very excited for orientation!

Is that clinical experience from MC students or elsewhere? I wouldn't be surprised though. We are just learning and I'm sure mistakes will happen. The field can be stressful so I am sure we will likely get the brunt of that from time to time from doctors and nurses. I think if we demonstrate our knowledge, desire, and skill and have a good relationship with our co-workers I think we will do fine.
