Hello Joe and all who arrive later!
Tweety, loved the Pie Jesu video, what a beautiful voice he has! Wonder when it will change...
We spent yesterday at Disneyland, for Dapper Day. I am not good at getting photos of SO MANY dapper-dressed ppl, so I got a few of the decorations. You can go online and look for Dapper Day photos. We got 13,800 steps in (4.92 miles), yay! It was a lot of fun and we got to chat with many friendly ppl. Had a nice supper in CA Adventure restaurant. Got some gingerbread cookies (yum, theirs are the BEST).
Dickens band!
Us, dressed Dapper!
Today we need to make an appt to get a service on the car. And we'll rest from yesterday's exertions and excitement! We love seeing lots of others in dapper dress, there are so many creative ppl!
Have a good day!
Good morning.
Joe, hope you have an ordinary day.
I made to North Carolina and am having lunch and driving a rental from the airport. Should be only an hour and a half. My shady sister and I are going out for Indian food. I'll mind my business and let her volunteer anything she cares to share.
Great pics Dianah!
Have a great day.
dianah, you are a VISION in blue! (my favorite color!) Very nice 'dapperness' on both of you!
Years ago I had a collapsible top-hat, and I used it for a Halloween costume, where *I* was Abe Lincoln, with my hair long enough to tape across my face as a beard and a mustache, and I wore a long, black riding-jacket, too. My brother, who doesn't want to admit this, was 'cute' dressed as Mary Todd Lincoln, with a full length black taffeta skirt and top, and a wig, with a black hat like ladies wore back then, with the ribbon tied in a bow under his chin. The joke was that my brother is the tallest one in the family, and I am shorter than him by about six inches, so our version of Mary and Abe was opposite of the heights they were IRL.
The (good) neighbor came over to get all of hubby's rifles, ammo, a Glock, LOTS of ammunition, a bullet-proof vest, and a leather gun holster for wearing under a jacket, plus a gun-cleaning kit. I told him to do whatever he can about selling the stuff off, no rush. He will have to clean everything like crazy as they all are covered in dust, but he knows to do that so the guns, etc, will be more 'attractive' to a gun buyer; he can make them shine like new! I also gave him the original boxes they came in, another strong selling point, I guess.
My SiL called....I swear she talks so fast, and hardly takes a breath! I have to do like I do when I am listening to Nannie telling her tales....I figure if I hear every third or fourth word I can get the gist of what she is saying and do appropriate enough responses! ?It has gotten that I have said to her, "Don't talk so fast!" so many times, I just gave up!
Anyway, she is getting transferred back to work at the ABC store that is closest to us, and will be able to zip by after work to sit with Nannie/Momo if I have to dash out to a store. She said she and my niece will try to figure out a routine where each one of them does some sitting, to allow me to go out for longer than just a quick store-run. (Or I can just putter upstairs on my room without having to run downstairs to do some Nannie-stuff.) But she did say, "We should've started doing that for you a long time ago!" Some epiphany, huh?
Anyway, she is also going to see about me getting paid for living here and taking care of Nannie, and/or getting a home-Health aide to come in and bathe her. Good luck with that; Nannie can't hardly spread her legs far enough apart for her "down below" to be visible, so ya have to kind of do it by the Braille method! She said once it embarrasses her for someone to look at her "that way". I told her there is no "that way" to it, it is just for hygiene's sake. I have seen so many genitalia in my career, it doesn't matter to me; it is just another area to keep clean. Good thing she has Nystatin powder to sprinkle in the nooks and crannies, as she gets red as the blazes there, and sometimes under her breasts.
Now it is getting so I have to remind her to wash her hands after toileting.....I found out one day that she wipes herself with the requisite 2-3 squares of TP (like many old folks were taught to do) and then she uses another 3 squares to wipe off her fingers, and calling them 'clean'. HAH! Nope, ya gotta use soap and water! It irritates her to be reminded to wash her hands, but I wonder how long she has been 'taking care of herself' that way and thinking it'll do. At least I haven't come down with any diseases from her, via e-coli or whatever! YIKES!' By the way, she had on two pairs of pants again when I got her up. Maybe she thinks that second pair helps keep her dry? Just means more laundry for me; I have put her to bed every night with PJ bottoms, but at some point she gets up and takes them off and adds some pants (or two pair!) AND her slippers, then she gets back into bed....then EVERYTHING gets wet! When the sheets and blankets are not sopping, but only have a smaller amt of pee transferred to them, I will peel back the blankets and sheets and turn the ceiling fan on high, so that by the time she goes to bed, it ain't wet any more. Tsk-tsk-tsk! I never did that when I worked for a living!
Momo is getting too smart, in some respects....like she knows when I pick up my purse, it might mean I am leaving, and she does these soft little whines, not wanting to be left behind. But I don't ALWAYS pick up my purse just to be leaving; sometimes I'm just cleaning it out, or I'm going to balance the checkbooks.(That reminds me of Grumpy's post in the Best Nursing Puns site. The one where it said, "A woman asked me to check her balance, so I pushed her over..." ??.)
Momo is on her back and is kicking at me with her hind legs to remind me she wants her belly rubbed.
I am hungry, so I may have some late lunch or early supper. Since it is 62 degrees and sunny again today, I may go sit outside to eat.
Dianah, the two of you are the epitome of dapper! I love your hat!
My annual dreaded eye exam is over. Every thing is stable, come back in a year. I like this doctor better than the last one who was always in an uproar about some finding, and then sending me some where else for followup, that never amounted to anything.
The cable guy came a little while ago, so that's why I can post. Last night was really quiet without TV. The electrician is supposed to come today or tomorrow, to repair where the wires enter the house. The neighbor's brother wrote an estimate on repairing the roof where the tree brushed over it, and the gutters. $6800! We will need to wait for the insurance adjuster to figure out next steps.
I've only seen one real opera, in person, and that was the Magic Flute. It was put on by the local university. I did like the aria from it, sometimes called "The Queen of the Night". I really liked the music from the Phantom of the Opera, which I've seen on stage 3 times. I think it's rather opera-like.
My eyes are starting to undilate, so I'm going to go help dh clean in the garage.
I ate tomatoes sliced on seeded rye bread, with a little mayo, some turmeric powder, freshly-ground black paper, and some greek olives on the side.
Nannie has been "Air-Sewing" again. She opened her eyes and looked out into the back yard and asked, "Is it wet outside?" I told her, "No, the sun is shining." She said, "Oh, good." This, from the woman who might walk out a distance of approximately 14 feet to get into the car that is parked by the back door, maybe two times a month. Used to drive hubby crazy when she asked if it's raining, when it obviously isn't. He'd say, "What are you so worried about if it's raining or not?" ("Well, I just need to know...")
j22, happy for you that the dreaded eye exam was easier with the new Dr.
Stars, your sammich sounded good 'til you got to the part about the black paper ?
Dory dog has had a terrible horrible very bad evening. After Benadryl I finally just held her with my legs until she calmed down. Hubs is extremely irritable about this and because Darby has had fecal messes the last couple of days. If I leave to go anywhere again we might not have dogs when I get back. So I'm irritable with Hubs because he's so irritable.
I should call my sister but it always ends up being over an hour. I wonder if she wants me to go down there when she has her gallbladder surgery the day before Thanksgiving. She will go home with her son and his wife for the first couple of days, which makes sense. I would just be company and moral support. Hubs doesn't think I need to go. Hubs doesn't understand that my family has always been this kind of supportive. And she doesn't have a husband...
Ado, so sorry to hear about Dory dog. I know that must be a worry, and then to add considering whether to leave to support your sister... Any decision you make will have been thoroughly considered, I am sure. ((((((((((((((((( Ado ))))))))))))))))
nursej22, good you have an opthalmologist you are more comfortable with, rather than the other one.
I have watched a couple operas on PBS. They were ... interesting. A whole different world.
Have a good evening!

Tweety hope you have a good trip
TMB I do find a lot of operas difficult to listen to
Stars I really liked Amadeus and have the DVD
Hi abbnurse and Ado
Quieter day yesterday. Did a little shopping before church, then arrived at church early to help usher. Then came home and did the cooking for the week
Rest of the day was uneventful. Exercised and finished watching The Flying Dutchman. Drove around my old neighborhood, since I hadn't been there in a while
One thing I've noticed, since I've begun working harder on mindfulness I noticed that I dream more, or at least remember the dreams I more. Not sure if it's related
Should be an ordinary day today. Will follow up regarding the car to see how much closer it is and when it will arrive. Have Friday off so it will be a shorter week for me
Going to be a bit warmer today, in the low 60s
