World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi!

i applied for January intake of Mohawk RPN program. I'm waiting to hear from admissions.

I was told I would hear back by the end of august but that is not the case. So I'm wondering when you guys heard back from there and when I can expect to hear back?

In high school I took uni courses so I added 10% for college. I have an 87.6% average.

For my hoae I got:

aa 56/75 84.46 normalized

ns 45/60 67.87

rc 30/35 45.25

sp 38/45 57.31

via 69/90 104.71

im just wondering what grades they look for competitively and I don't really know how to read my hoae results. thanks for your help in advance!

Any help is appreciated!!!

Hey Alicia,

For clinical placements you must wear ceil blue scrubs and white shoes. Some clinical instructors are more strict in terms of colours, so better to just go with pure white to avoid buying another pair. For lab you must also wear your ceil scrubs, but any colour shoes. Don't forget to pick up the nursing student badges from the Health Science's bookstore at MAC. They must be on all uniforms.

Clinicals started the 5th week of classes. All students are placed in LTC facilities in Hamilton. There are about 10 students per location, and then we are split up among the floors. In semester 1, you learn basic nursing skills, such as hygiene, transfers, therapeutic communication, physical assessments (musculoskeletal, respiratory, abdominal), vitals, etc.

Honestly, the work load is heavy - 7 full courses (6 if you are exempt from Communications). Personally I find it can be overwhelming at times. Just so you have a framework - I am not working part-time and dedicate most of my time to studying. It's challenging in many different ways. Just take a day at a time. It is doable if you stay focused. Align yourself with like-minded students. I am doing well in the program and am enjoying it alot more than I even thought I would.

Hope this helps! Keep the questions coming if you'd like..

Thank you so much! I am both nervous and excited but I know organization and focus is key so great to have that confirmed.

I really appreciate your input. If there is anything else important you think we may need to know, I am sure everyone would appreciate!

Oh - I do have another question. What is your schedule like? I will be working on weekends only in terms of part time work.

If you aren't already aware, the program is very self-directed. If you are an independent learner and self-motivated, you should do fine. You are expected to come to class/lab already familiar with the material. For example, you must have the chapters read and the workbook filled out before class. In class, some points are reiterated, but in general, the bulk of knowledge is self-taught. The instructors are there for direction and feedback, but not to teach you everything. And also, I don't know how to explain this, but... a lot of times we don't know what we are supposed to know? I'm not trying to scare you, but just want you to be aware of what the program entails.

My schedule:

Mon: 8:30 - 10:30, 3:30 - 5:30

Tues: 8:30 - 11:30, 2:30 - 4:30

Wed: 8:30 - 12:30 lab

Thurs: Clinical 7 - 1

Fri: Off (not complaining about that one!) Everyone has 1 week day off per week

I find class times can really vary depending on what block you are in. Keep in mind that time spent actually in class/lab/clinical is very minimal compared to time spent on courses outside of the classroom.

I realize people have to work to support themselves, but as you will be warned and realize quickly - be careful about time management. Expectations are high. And just be aware that a lot of testing is completed (online) on the weekends. It's not unusual to find out Monday or Tuesday that you have a test on the weekend.

Keep the questions coming if you wish!

Thank you! Very helpful!

Sorry I pressed submit before I could type more.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by you dont know what you are supposed to know? In that case you can only really do the reading and come to class. Or do you mean you dont know what to read even?

Also my job on the weekend is very flexible and saturdays I am usually done work by 12-1230. But I Appreciate you being up front about it! I just have a house and bills to pay and have no choice. So I will need to make it work somehow.

Great to hear about the one day off though! I choose my classes/get my timetable on Wednesday :)

How do you like labs? How are the instructors?

By the way I just registered for classes today and it says something about Practicum on Sunday morning...I assume its just there for now because its not yet placed on my "Keepopen" section on my timetable?

Haha I just logged in to ask about this! I really hope it's not an actual placement, I imagine getting around Hamilton by bus at 8:00 on a Sunday morning is difficult. Although where there's a will there's a way.

Hey, maybe we're in the same classes.

Did you choose Block A or Block B? I work sunday mornings right now so I hope to god its not actually that day. Do you know who we could contact to ask?

Anyway I chose block B so if you did as well then looks like we are in the same classes!

I currently also have class Mon from 830-1130 and 230-430 and then Tues 130-330 and 430-630 and wed to fri are open. Oh and online communication course.

Oh, no I think I chose Block A. Mon-Wed say PLAC KEEP and I have classes on Thursday and Friday, as well as that Sunday morning thing. I was exempt from the communications course.

I'm at work right now but I'm going to look more into the Sunday thing when I get home. I hope Julles comes back to the thread to explain lol

LOL agreed! I chose block B... :( but yeah I assume its just because there isn't a set day or time for lab yet. Hopefully Julles responds like you said. I am at work as well but keep me posted if you find out and I will do the same.

Great that you were exempt! Hopefully see you around in January!

Hey Philvane I chose Block A as well! I am under the impression the classes on Sunday are just in the time table to show what we take. Once we get/know which day our placements are then we will know when those Sunday classes actually are Monday to Wednesday. :)

My question is.....where do we go the first day? It is a Wednesday which is just PLACE KEEP FREE on our schedules.....?
