Mohawk 2015 Fall RPN Program

Published

Hi guys, so I found out my HOAE test result from ocas website today. It is about 73% and together with my high school average 93.5%, my final score comes to 83.8%...I have heard this is a very competitive program and I am wondering what were the cut offs for the previous years and do you guys think I have any chance to get in? feeling so nervous

Hello All! I haven't booked the assessment yet but will do so soon.

Philvane, thanks for all the advice thus far! Were you exempt from the Communications class? I'm just wondering what grade is required to be exempt from the course. I've read previous threads and it seems that only individuals who've taken previous Communications courses are exempt. Some people have received near perfect scores and still have to take the online course. Any advice is greatly appreciated in advance. Thanks!

Yes I was exempt from communications. My score was 8/8 on the writing and 103/120 on the reading section of the test.

The marking sheet they will give you after the assessment is broken into sections: "Low Range", "Medium Range", and "High Range"... the high range is 7-8 on the writing and 91-120 on the reading. There is no indication of the exemption threshold though.

I don't know if it's worth worrying the score at this point, because you can't really study for this. Your writing and reading comprehension skills are already at a certain level, and this assessment is simply to determine what that is. The best thing you can do is go into the test room well nourished and well rested, and ready to go.

Thank you so much for the advice and clarification Philvane! It's definitely helpful to know the parameters that we'll have to stay within to be exempt from the course. One less course is always a bonus.

Hi everyone ! I went to mohawk yesterday and spoke with someone in admissions and they told me that if I wanted to get ahead by taking courses in the spring / summer that not only would it cost for those courses but that it would not make the tuition lower. I emailed the program coordinator just to be sure of it. Can you believe it ? It will cost more to get ahead and have a lower course load but tuition costs will still be the same ! plus none of the courses that are offered through continuing education are in the first semester of program

By the way I asked which courses would be available through continuing education and they are developmental psychology and sociology and those courses cost 300 + $$....

I really hope that when I do the assessment for success I get exempted from doing communications .... AH the struggle ! Lol

That's how it was at Conestoga as well. Tuition wasn't like university, where you pay per unit/credit, it was a set amount of money. So if we wanted to take courses during the summer, that was our choice and came out of our pockets.

Lol what a money making business !

So I calculated the cost of the courses (online delivery) and the Psyc plus Soc cost $717.93

and if you wanted to do Comm with them then it would cost $1125.48 !

Quite pricey !

I'm still debating on whether or not I will be going this route just to have a slightly lower course load

Congratulations to everyone who got an acceptance!

My status just recently changed from "no decision" to "wait listed" better than rejection right?

I'm just wondering how likely It would be for me to get an acceptance after being on the wait list?

Does anybody go to the open house tomorrow?

I was at the open house today ! So many people ! Beautiful building and loved to see the practical lab ! Definitely was a great event
