I am longing for the day that I can be mistake free. I know there is a learning curve...but for how long? I have been "out there" for a little over a year. I have been on my new floor for 4 months. I have one nurse telling me one thing and then others doing their own thing...but who gets corrected...me...I am getting weary, almost scared at times...I feel so inadequate at times and am just waiting for the axe to fall...I am organized but then sometimes I forget to document something and have to go back...that is annoying...uhhhgh! I worry about what some would call "little things" like someone's I&O...they aren't that accurate anyway right(esp on a med surge floor)...well it still bothers me...should it? (sigh)

as long as you remain human you will never be mistake free. They will however decrease with time and practice.

It's very frustrating. Just go by the book each and every time, develop good habits for good.
There will never come a time when you will be "mistake free".
Hang in there, you're doing great!

Mistake free? Whoooooo boy, the only person I ever heard of who fits that description is also known for walking on water and feeding five thousand people with a couple loaves of bread and a fish or two.
I've been a nurse for just over a decade, and I learn something new EVERY SINGLE DAY. Please don't think you'll ever have this job totally wired.........you won't. You'll make fewer mistakes as you learn and grow, and hopefully those few won't be serious, but things change so fast in this profession that most of what you're learning today will be obsolete in five years. So take heart, if you do your best every day, and BE your best every day, you'll learn your job well and become a great nurse! Good luck to you!!

the best of the best, continue in making mistakes.
often, it's these learning experiences that make us as good as we are.
as tweety said, go by the book/p&p manual.
develop good habits now.
don't beat yourself up over every little mistake.
praise yourself for all that you've learned, and continue to learn.
and keep going forward.
you're going to shine.
