I remember a student at orientation last month bringing up the possibility of purchasing Nursing textbooks from the SCCC (St Charles Community College) bookstore tax free weekend (Friday only, I am guessing.) This subject brings me to a realization that I am not going to be able to take advantage of tax free purchases of my textbooks unless I pay out of pocket (that is if I don't use loan money, but cold hard cash/check).
Does anyone else have any input on this? Do you think student loans can be used in providing a bookstore credit since tax free weekend falls a few days before bookstore credit can be used from Pell awards?

I'm not sure i understand this question. Are you trying to determine if you'll have your financial aid money in time for tax free weekend? What kind of financial aid will you be receiving? I don't have as much experience in this because i've been paying out of my own pocket. When do you expect your financial aid? And when is tax free weekend?
Yes. I am receiving a loan, and that is just a question I'll need to ask financial aid, Tax Free weekend is Aug 5-7, and bookstore credits don't even go into effect until Aug. 10th. That's why I was thinking about it.
So, if I pay out of pocket I should have no problem getting the tax break. However, if textbooks can't be applied to loan disbursement through a credit, then I will have to do it at full price... what books I do purchase through the bookstore. I just know I am not going to have all the money I need for textbooks come day 1 of class if I strictly pay out of pocket.
