Missing clinicals

Published

have you ever had to miss a clinical day for something really important ? if so did it put you far behind ?

i have to miss a clinical day in the next course which is medsurg. our clinicals are on saturdays and sundays from 7-5:30pm. i wanted to know if anyone has ever had to miss a clinical day before? i'm also expected to write a care plan on my patient... will one clinical day be enough for me to collect data on a patient enough to write a care plan, and taking care of the patient ? help :uhoh3:

you should make every effort to attend every clinical meeting. there is usually a very small cap on how many days you can miss, and you certainly don't want to max that out and fail clinical. the only time you should miss clinical is when absolutley necessary, and at the very end of your clinical, when you can take a "free day" on the last day (assuming you haven't missed other days).

Okay everyone ! My wedding date has been pushed back to after graduation day. It broke my heart to when my mom says that she is sad because she feels as though I' rushing things. She really wants to be apart of the wedding, but how can she when I'm in nursing school and the wedding is right around the corner. My fiance also told my mom behind my back that he'd rather we wait until I'm done with school. So I'm going to wait, and be patient. Gods willing I'll become a nurse first and then a wife ! I want to be able to bring something to the table in my marriage. After thinking long and hard I find that its best just to wait. Thanks everyone ! I can't to go to clinicals now !

I think this is better for everyone all around. I just went oooooooo!!!!! when I read about 5 am wakeup for clinical the day after the wedding!! Have a wonderful wedding and am so glad that you and your family will be able to enjoy the ceremonies without you having to be dealing with nursing school! Wise decision!

Oh for heaven's sake!

If your wedding date was set before the clinical schedule came out, go to your level instructor and explain it. We are not heartless blue meanies trying to suck the very essence of joy out of your lives! :DCongratulations!

You definitely were not my clinical instructor! LOL! Pure Evil!

In LPN school we could miss a certain number of hours - either clinical or class and then you were kicked out - I think I missed one clinical.

In RN I missed one clinical day the 1st semester due to being sick. You can't come on the floor with a fever and I wouldn't subject cancer patients to my illness anyways.

2nd semester I had to miss my first clinical. I was not happy, but I had a court date that could not be moved. I don't like to miss so soon. I talked to my clinical instructor and she understood.

So as it was mentioned, talk to the instructor if you do need to miss.
