misdemeanors and getting accepted into the nursing program

Published

Hello!

I will be applying to the Ivy Tech nursing program in September, and I'm concerned about getting accepted because of a DUI and a possession of marijuana charge in 2017. Is this something that I should be extremely concerned about?

Two places/entities you need to ask this question directly to:  The school(s) you're applying to and your State BON.

This will be something you will have to reveal when applying. Even if the school is okay with it, you need to find out if the state BON (where you are planning on being licensed in) is okay with it too.

Good luck!

While the school may accept you, unfortunately the BON will not guarantee that they will issue a ATT (authorization to test) until you actually apply for your ATT-and that's not done until you're eligible (completed nursing school).

This isn't saying to give up, it's just that each case is considered individually when the time comes. Always be truthful on applications and consider hiring an attorney.

If you have had a clean record since- the Indiana BON will make you jump thru some hoops but you should be OK. (I have experience as a Director of an IN nursing program)

Thank you all so much!
I’ll just take it one step at a time and hope for the best!

Hi I'm also going to IvyTech and joining their Dental Assistant program. I've been accepted already but have concerns with the background check because I too have a misdemeanor charge for marijuana.  I was wondering if everything ended up working out for you and if the charge affected anything?
