Hi all,
I am starting this thread for pre-nursing students that are applying for Fall 2018! I have 73-79 points depending on how well I do on my TEAS. I am not very confident in getting in, but I have my hopes up. Worst case scenario I will have my associates in biological sciences for spring 2019 and my points will be 78-84 which still are probably not enough. Someone give me some confidence! Haha.. Good luck to everyone!
Thank you! Yes, you're right. I had a typo there. I have 85 points - I fixed it.
I really wanted to go to Grossmont, it was my top school! However I didn't have my Hep B completed in time, so they wouldn't accept my application. I have thought about applying in June for Grossmont's Spring 2019 cohort, but I don't want to risk turning down this opportunity and not getting in.
The drive will suck, but I have heard that classes aren't every day of the week mostly, and clinicals are going to be all over the place no matter what school we attend. So I'm going to remain positive and just accept Palomar is where I am meant to be. :)
Sorry... not to correct you, but you have 90 pts based on your stats.
10 degree
5 cna
30 science gpa @4.0
15 other pre recs @ 4.0
30 TEAS @91.3%
____________
=90!
Regardless, I am sorry that Grossmont did not work out, but Palomar is a great program! Even though i really want a spot, I would not advise waiting or giving up the opportunity! You will do great, as your points indicate you are well prepared!
Got my acceptance letter too, I got accepted at miracosta too but I'm taking Palomar. Looking forward to meeting you.
OOH ooh! Can I ask you why you chose Palomar over Mira Costa? That's very interesting to me. I need to hear why Palomar is awesome, because I'm having a HUGE case of FOMO for having screwed up my chance to get in to Grossmont this semester (I live 10 mins away from Grossmont-- DOH!)
I was also accepted to Miracosta and Palomar but not sure which program is better? Miracosta is closer to home for me but I am very conflicted because palomar isn't too far either...
If anyone knows anyone in the Miracosta RN Prgram I would love to hear from you! :-) I know Miracosta clinicals range from Tri-City, Kaiser, or palomar and it is a smaller cohort. But that is pretty much it lol
I don't know anyone specifically in the program now, but apparently it is the one most adn students want to get into as top choice.
one thing i can say, is that it would be a smaller class size, which is great for some people... it gives u better ability to get to know all classmates, professors and clinical instructors. that translates into having the chance to hopefully get excellent recommendations, which will be needed given it is an ADN program, as most employers now want a BSN as the minimum degree.
maybe also pay attention to their affiliations with the RN to BSN programs.
And obviously if there is a specific hospital u hope to work at, then check out where ur clinicals would be. However, i think they all go to similar hospitals because there are only certain hospitals that are part of the san diego nursing consortium. think mira costa does alot at Palomar, Kaiser, Balboa, Tri City i think, and i am sure scripps.
last thing is to check out NCLEX pass rates. I think Miracosta is 100%. kind of speaks for it self.
i have no clue.... did not get notified of being on a standby list? Did you get an email a few daysago about it?
can i also ask how many points you have? knowing all this is letting me accept the likely negative outcome for myself to be honest.
