MiraCosta / MSJC Spring 2021 ADN

Published

Hi guys!

I just wanted to make a thread for everyone who has applied for the Spring 2021 ADN programs down here in Socal!

I am applying for both MiraCosta and MSJC since Palomar canceled their Spring ADN application window.

Notifications will be out within 2 months at the end of October, good luck everyone!

Yes I agree with that logic. I also agree the only fallout would be in trying to attend MSJC after having backed out once.

Its just frustrating for people to be put in that situation. And it seems a little odd that MiraCosta is taking so long, I don't think its normally this late. They might be finishing up figuring out covid policy or something though, who knows.

@LucyGooseyy What are you gonna do?

I am going to accept MSJC. Then if I also get accepted to MiraCosta ill decide whether or not to stay with MSJC. MSJC will be closer to where I'll be living and a cohort of only 12 is amazing but I've heard such good things about MiraCosta's RN program and I've done almost all my schooling there so far so its hard ☹

What sort of great things have you heard about MiraCosta? I don’t know anything about MiraCosta, except that it’s a good program. I applied there last minute because Grossmont isn’t accepting applications. What have y’all heard about it?

Great Question. Can everyone who knows anything post Pros and Cons to both MSJC and Miracosta?

Lucy I believe the cohort is actually 24. I think heard only 12 is accepted for the Spring RN program because they combine us with the 12 LVN-RN students.. I may be totally wrong though. I know the RN cohort in Fall is 100% 24.

From what I saw in the student handbook that MSJC sent out it looks like LVN-RN students do an independent semester first, then join 3rd semester RN students for their 2nd semester. So I would assume the cohort would at least stay at 12 until the 3rd semester. Im guessing based on what I saw though, I could be wrong.

Ohh that would make sense!

As far as I know:

MiraCosta- consistently higher NCLEX pass rates (although never by much), really good experienced teachers (from what I've heard from past students, other teachers there, personal experience), good location in terms of hospitals available for clinicals (my opinion which is subjective)

MSJC- small Spring cohort size is a positive (depending on how long it lasts), high pass rates, and I had a friend that went here for their RN program with positive things to say but I can't remember specifics

I would be interested in knowing what everyone else has heard!

How big is the MC cohort?

MiraCosta cohort should be 20 but there was speculation they might be only doing 15 this semester with covid

Check your emails guys... I got one just now from MiraCosta notifying me that I am an "alternate" for the Spring 2021 program. If someone who was extended an offer declines or fails to attend the orientation, I will be offered a spot. If I am not given a spot this semester I am guaranteed a spot in the Fall 2021 cohort. ?
