Minnesota School of Business Richfield

Published

Hello all.

Wondering if anyone is in the bachelors nursing program at this school? Can you give me your opinion on the school, program, or any other insight? I am going to an information session tomorrow. I know this program is very expensive, but I'm looking for other pros/cons.

Thank you for any opinions!!

Make sure that the program is nationally accredited (NLNAC or CCNE) as well as approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Nurses who graduate from non-accredited programs do have more difficulty finding employment. Moreover, while you may not be thinking about going on for graduate education, most graduate programs require that an applicant has completed an NLNAC or CCNE-accredited nursing program.

Have you considered other, less expensive programs in your area? I'm assuming you're in the Twin Cities since you mentioned Richfield. There are many BSN options in the metro area, from the U of MN to Metropolitan State University. I think Minnesota State University Mankato has some coursework available in the Twin Cities. If you're willing to drive a little bit, St. Cloud State has a program as well. There are also a number of private schools in the area; I've heard good things about Bethel University and I think Saint Scholastica, in Duluth, has courses in the Twin Cities area. You might even be able to go to a school in Wisconsin for less money than a proprietary school.

I know that BSN programs are often very competitive in terms of admissions and would expect that U of M is probably the most competitive of all of the programs in Minnesota. If you're not able to get into the BSN program of your choice, would you consider doing an ADN first then an ADN to BSN or MSN bridge? There are many reasonably priced community colleges in the metro area. Normandale Community College has a good program.

Not necessarily trying to talk you out of this school, but just want you to make the decision with your eyes open. I really can't say if there is any stigma associated with going to a proprietary school because right now it's hard for all new grads to find jobs. I wish you the best in this decision!

I don't go there, but I do know it is accredited by CCNE and they do at least one acute care clinical, I think at HCMC. You'll want to know where they do clinicals and how many hours. However, it is probably the most expensive nursing program out there and because it is more of a school run on a business philosophy they are mainly to make money which is not the best reputation to have. I do know it is a school that is fairly easy to get into because of this reason. However, i believe their NCLEX pass rate is very high, you'll want to check that, so you might get a decent education.
