Hi everyone! I am a new member. I recently applied to NHCC evening/weekend nursing program for a Fall 2007 start. I already have my BA in another field, so I only have A/P and Micro to finish up as generals. I am starting A/P Jan 17 :monkeydance: . Does anyone here go to NHCC? What have your experiences been like with regard to their nursing program? Where are clinicals- do you have a choice? On the App it asked if you would like St Cloud or Metro clinicals. I chose metro- have you all found this to be a guarantee? I am very interested in going into Neonatal nursing- as you can see by my name I've had 3 preemies. Has anyone been able to have clinical experiences int his area?

Thanks!

J

I just wanted to pop in and say that as of last Tuesday, I am an RN :smiley_aa

I took the NCLEX on Monday and had 75 questions and found out Tuesday morning that I passed! Four of my classmates passed w/ 75 questions as well. What a relief and now on to orientation on neuro!!

Congrats on passing the NCLEX! Did you feel well prepared?

Update us on how your orientation goes when you can. ;)

Hi to all---

My name is Kim, and I will be starting the nursing program at NHCC in a couple weeks---I'm pretty nervous, and I'm wondering what people recommend I do for work---how much, what type, etc. Also, I'm thinking of getting pregnant (I'm 33) for the first time and having the baby in the summer (in between the first and second year). Am I out of my mind or is this doable? What is the second year like? Are you in class/clinicals more than the first year? More hours I should say?

Thanks--

Kim

Hey KimRN2b, congrats on starting the program! It's very exciting, and overwhelming! I am a second year student there, and i am currently 35 weeks pregnant! There are also 2 other women who are pregnant in my class! So yes, it can be done!!! It depends on you also, and what you think you can handle! I remember the first year being pretty busy! I would suggest to try to read before lectures. The tests are hard, expecially as the program continues. There are tons of drug cards to do, at least 30 each semester! Stay ahead of those so you aren't cramming them in. Make sure you have a good grasp on the skills also, so you are comfortable in clinicals and when they test you on them! I remember being so nervous testing out of the skills. The care plans seem to be hard to grasp, but it will get better! If you have any questions, i'd be glad to help you throughout the year! my email is [email protected] Good Luck!

Oh, i forgot to mention.....This semester we have clinicals E/O week. I think it totals 13 clinical days. The first day of class we had a math exam similar to that of the first year math tests. We also had a clinical simulation day where we had to draw skills out of a hat and perform them. Other then that we just had orientation and lecture. Lecture is similar to 1st year, but 2.5 hrs 2 days a week. You also go to HCMC for a psych rotation, and the rest are at NMMC. I think you are going to Northridge nursing home the first semester, and then North Memorial the second semester! Any other ?'s just let me know!

I just wanted to say Hi, and give some encouragement. I just graduated last spring, and am now doing the job hunting thing. You both are on rough roads right now, but hang tight. You have great teachers and most of them really care about their students! Maybe I'll see you around NMMC!

I am applying for the nursing program at NHCC this January. I will have all pre reqs done except for A & P 2 and a gen ed. I will be applying for the n/w. I am freaking out wondering if I will be accepted. Is there anyone who is currently in the program here or was recently? Can you tell me what classes most students had finished when they were excepted?

thanks!:uhoh21:

First - :welcome:

Second - you're going to want to remove your email, or a mod will be by shortly to do it for you!

Third - I graduated from the Brooklyn Park NHCC days program last spring. I had all my prereqs done, was a student "of record" (had taken classes there) and had a pretty high GPA. I was accepted the first time I applied, but know several people who applied a couple times, were not accepted, etc. A couple classmate were finishing up micro or A&P through the first year of the program.

As far as I know though, they only start new groups each year in the fall, and applying for a January start date will not be helpful. (But, this certainly may have changed...)

Hope any of this information was helpful, and Good-luck to you!
