Hi everyone! I am a new member. I recently applied to NHCC evening/weekend nursing program for a Fall 2007 start. I already have my BA in another field, so I only have A/P and Micro to finish up as generals. I am starting A/P Jan 17 :monkeydance: . Does anyone here go to NHCC? What have your experiences been like with regard to their nursing program? Where are clinicals- do you have a choice? On the App it asked if you would like St Cloud or Metro clinicals. I chose metro- have you all found this to be a guarantee? I am very interested in going into Neonatal nursing- as you can see by my name I've had 3 preemies. Has anyone been able to have clinical experiences int his area?

Thanks!

Are there any classes or test you have to take over the summer? anything you need to do prior to Fall start? also what kind of math do they have you doing?

Thanks for taking the time to answer, I appreciate it.

No tests or anything over the summer, it may be wise to read ahead if you get accepted! Usually they will post the readings up for you to see after orientation in May. Also, the math is basically dosages, there is a dosage calculations book that you can get at the bookstore if you want to study over the summer. The first math test is just cross multiplying. They also, have you take a medical terminology test but that one isn't bad! you can get that one at the bookstore also!

Nothing much to add to what NuHAH said, but to say you got to find out ahead of time what reading to do  In our E/W class we felt like we were entering a secret society because none of us had a clue what to expect about anything nursing school related until the first day of class...even then we were all lost until about 1-2 weeks into it LOL

The dosage test is alot of converting (teaspoons to mL), inches to centimeters, mg to g, etc. I think we had some you need to give 250mg of Tylenol and have 125mg tablets, how many do you give, etc. At least now they let you use calculators! I remember the second semester dividing out to 5 places on paper...Yuck!!

Hey everyone! I'm at Hennepin Tech right now to get my LPN and I'm going to do the mobility option at NHCC when I am done. Do you have anyone in your classes that are doing this? I went to NHCC as a PSEO student when I was a senior in high school so I have many of the prereqs done except for the biology courses. I was thinking of doing some of them this summer, I don't know if or how the A&P course I have to take at Hennepin Tech will transfer to NHCC, does it just cover A&P I? I guess I will have to ask a counselor but I wanted to know if anyone had any info first. Did anyone have any trouble taking any of the biology courses over the summer?

chuchie~we have about 8 LPN's in with us this year. I wouldn't recommend A&P over the summer, too much info to cover. I took micro over the summer without any problems. The only thing with that is that you have to have biology completed before you can take micro. I can't see biology being that difficult to take over the summer if you have any biology background and if it seems to come somewhat easy for you.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to apply for the summer and over the next year to get all my pre-reps done with so I can apply and start the Summer transition part of the mobility program. That's too bad that I have to take General Biology before Micro, because last night I was really hoping that I could do these two in the summer, take A & P I in the fall, and then finish with A & P II in the spring inconjuction with my classes at Hen. Tech. Of course, there is always the risk that that these classes will fill up even before they let me register. I see on their registration site that they have continuing and returning students with 20 plus credits get 1st priority for summer so hopefully that will be enough to overcome that problem! Ahhhhhh nursing school and it's many problems...........

Had my first big A/P test last night. I actually think I may have gotten an A. We will see on Monday!
