My husband is in the USMC and when he enlisted I was already in school and I couldn't leave with him when he was sent to his first duty station in Okinawa, Japan for 2 years. I had to deal with being in school and married but really had no reason as to why I couldn't go except nursing school because of credits. Since Japan, he got orders to go to Camp Pendleton, CA where we now have a place on base he's on deployment and I'm here in North Carolina and will be a May graduate with my BSN yayyy!!! When I graduate I will be moving ASAP to CA.
Right now I'm trying to find a job either on base or close to base and this is the hardest search in the world to me. If any one knows how to get an interview quick or get the Navy Hospital to get in touch with you fast please let me know because they say not to call just keep checking your notices but that's crazy. I know it may be a little harder to land an interview when you aren't from the area but I thought doing the base hospital would be better. I am going to Cali for my Spring Break and I was hoping to get an interview while I was there but who knows.
If anyone can help me with this little issue please I'm begging :bowingpur. It sucks to be in a position where a nurse manager has already practically offered you a job after an extern but you can't accept because you've been with your husband like 3 months since USMC because of school and you want to finally be a married couple but then you really want a job and no one is responding to you . Then most of your friends have had like 3 interviews in one month. For real I need some advice.
Also, does anyone have any advice on where I should take the NCLEX here in NC or when I get to CA since my husband will still be deployed ?
I am in a similar situation to yours. My fiancee is currently deployed and I am getting my RN license hopefully in two months when I pass NCLEX. I currently live in California but will move to North Carolina- where he is stationed at Fort Bragg. I decided to take NCLEX in California- I looked at the criteria to take the NCLEX in North Carolina and it just seemed easier to take NCLEX in California and have the process go smoother. Like somebody said above if u work at a federal facility- they accept an RN license from any state. But if you do not decide to work in a federal facility, then apply for endorsement of your RN license in California- I am applying for endorsement. I would chose to apply for a temporary permit so you can work while your permanent license is being processed. I started applying for jobs in North Carolina already even though I am still in California- and I will be having a phone interview in less than two days- so employers are def. understanding of the distance!!
I'm glad you are having luck, it's prob. that good ole Southern Hospitality, lol. It's just not the case for me calling in CA I've called and left messages and no one has returned my phone calls. You'll love North Carolina my husband and I are from here, well hope you will. Everyone that I know of is very friendly.
If anyone else has any ideas just shot them to me. Everyone has been a big help but if there are more ideas please let me know. It would really be wonderful if there was a military spouse at Camp Pendleton, CA now working or a military spouse at Camp Pendleton, CA who used to work that could give me some tips. Also, does anyone know what type of floors they have is their hospitals like the civilian hospitals but smaller?
Living in the Land of Oz I don't know the American system. Here are some things that work in Australia. Our Military use a posting " cycle" with the majority of postings happening at roughly the same time of year. You can use this cycle to your advantage, several months before the posting get your registration sorted in the new state and flood the area with resumes. A number of Defence spouses will be leaving which creates a mini-panic by a lot of employers, they grab at the early applicants to ensure staff. The Military has a saying, "Prior Preparation and Planning Prevents P@#$ Poor Performance". Plan early and plan properly.
Does the USMC have a spouse support network? If they do this is a possible avenue for the best options in that locality.
Ask other Defence spouses that have had postings to that locality, inside tips can go a long way.

I believe they do I'm not sure I will be checking everything in about two weeks when I go there on my Spring Break. I do have info to a new grad program starting in September to a hospital off base so my options aren't limited to base because I need a job because I have a lot of money to pay back.
