It depends on the agency. The federal rate is 56 cents/mile but the employer might offer you less than that. I get 40 cents/mile and I claim the rest on my taxes.

Are you being paid for mileage as in gas expenses or in terms of wear and tear on your vehicle?
New to 1099 independent contractor business, just wondering what I can/cannot claim on my taxes.
If I'm being paid mileage expenses, can I claim gas as an expense?

No gas, mileage, wear & tear are included in the mileage reimbursement. If the agency pays less than the federal rate of 56c/mi you can claim the rest. If they paid 50c/mi you get to claim 6c/mile on your taxes.

You can if you are being paid less than the federal reimbursement rate. I get reimbursed 40 cents/mile so I claim 16 cents/mile on my taxes.
Ok thanks! I get .45 a mile so I will get to claim some. Glad I asked so I can keep track!
