Might have made the wrong decision

Hi all,

Recently, I graduated highschool and am now going to University of Toronto. I was originally offered into the 4 year nursing program at York university but declined it because of where the campus actually was (seneca and york itself) and prefer living in downtown Toronto.

Going to U of T, I thought I could enter their second-entry nursing program during my 2nd-3rd year but now it's becoming clearer and clearer that I probably won't be able to do that and would have to complete a degree which would take 4 year and an additional 2 years to complete their nursing program assuming I got in. I feel like I've wasted 2 years of my life. I was hoping if someone could give me some advice on what to do?

Thanks.

You are still young. Rethink everything.

Look at the state of nursing in Canada. Limited employment aspects, government funding cuts.

See what you can do with the education you have, can it branch off into something else?

I've got six years to retirement, six years. I've got an injury from nursing that will affect the quality of my life for the rest of my years.

Honestly, study all your options carefully. Anti-social working hours, physical injury (and by age 50 most nurses hurt), and some of the nicest and nastiest coworkers ever.

Hi my UofT schoolmate :)

What program are you in right now? Is nursing something that you really want to do? It is okay it is just 2 years, if you really want to enroll into a nursing program perhaps you could consider transfer? Also, UofT 2nd entry nursing is super competitive and perhaps you should look into other schools too, some schools only require you to finish 2 years of universities with pre-req they wanted. Perhaps, take the pre-reqs while you're at UofT and graduate and leave the 2nd entry nursing option opened? Or change a major to something closer to nursing?
