Hi,
I need some advice. I'm currently enrolled in Microbiology, Chemistry(class, lab, & recitation) and a couple of other gen ed classes for next semester. I'm thinking of adding Human Anatomy and lab to make sure that I have most/all my pre-reqs done by May 2010. I would then take Physiology over the summer. Do you think that's too much? I know u don't me or my abilities/inabilities, but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I normally carry 18 credit hours per semester, so that wouldn't be a big deal. However, these science classes are a whole different ballpark

Wow...thats a lot.. but really it depends on how determined you are to work extra hard because the grades matter as much...i took micro, gen chem 1 and nutrition in the same semester and came out with B's. Given the same oppurtunity i'll do it again, micro is really a very broad subject that requires a lot of commiment to grasp...do you have a job? Because you have to be able to study for all of the courses while maintaining your sanity...like u said we dont really know ur capabilities, but if this is what you want to do, then go ahead...just be preapared for the struggle that comes with it.....Good luck :)

That will definitely be a heavy load. If you do not have a full time job it is possible. The key to being successful in the classes is great time management.
Mayday!

3 science classes at once would be a major challenge for me personally, but it just depends on your situation. Are you working? Do you have children? Other family obligations? Good support systems? All of these things will affect the intensity of your course load and the amount of time you've got to work with in terms of studying.
I'd be afraid that I'd get myself overwhelmed and overloaded and wind up totally bombing my GPA, but as I said, it just depends on your individual circumstances. You might want to check with your school, though; I know at my local college, they only allow you to take 2 science courses at once.
The best suggestion I can offer is to try to find a student who has taken the Human Anatomy course you're thinking about adding in and asking them how it was. Maybe even see if they've got their textbook or some old notes that you could scan through, just to get a feel for the course material and the instructors teaching style, expectations, etc. Ask them how much self-teaching was involved, on average how much study time they put in each week/class day, anything that would an important deciding factor for you in whether or not the class would be doable, on top of your existing course load.
Hope that helps!

I think Micro, Chem and Anatomy are plenty by themselves, let alone adding the gen eds. I totally understand about wanting a time limit. What about taking Physiology with a couple of those gen eds? Balance out your hard classes with the easy ones. I am taking 5 classes now (1 math + 4 social sciences) and I can handle it, but when I did my sciences, the max I took at once was 2 sciences plus 1 gen ed... high grades are my first priority. (BTW, it will have taken me 2 years (5 semesters) to be totally done my AS)
Good Luck!!
BTW - I am married and have two kids who I home schooled for part of it (online schooling for the rest)
I work(2 part-times) and I have a 1 year old. I'm honestly not worried about work because even tho I work 2 jobs, its like working a half of one:D Girl Scouts for about 2 hrs a day and then overnight at a shelter, where I sleep. I'm blessed in that regard. A little more info: All my classes would fall on MWF and if I added Human Anatomy, lab on Tuesday. I have spoken with a number of students who currently take this class and have been told that there is ALOT of studying, but that its not hard. It takes committment. One of the ladies currently taking the class, offered to let me use her book when she finishes in December. She has an A. I'm still undecided, but hope to be making a decision soon, so that I can start preparing over the Christmas break. Thanks for answering!

I totally understand what you mean by balancing, but these are the only classes I have not taken. I didn't realize I wanted to go into nursing until this semester, so changing from a social science type major, all I have left are sciences. The gen eds I need are Theology and math.
Would it be possible for you to CLEP math, or see if any of the math instructors will let you prove competency by exam? I know it might mean a little more study-time right now, but it would also keep you from having to struggle with it later on. Short term pain for long term gain, it might be an option for you.
Talk to some math instructors, speak with an adviser and see if/which CLEP exams they'll accept, check out the CollegeBoard site for some test prep, and maybe go from there. If you could get the general ed. math requirement out of the way, it would free up more time to cram in all those sciences!
Whatever you decide, I wish you the very best of luck! If you're committed and dedicated, anything is possible.

It is definitely doable. I have two science classes in the mix this semester and I am doing fine. I'm sure you will find the semester very demanding, but if it is what you want then you will be able to do it. Good LucK!

I wouldn't add the A&P
