I'm a 46 year old motjer to 3 young children and am starting PN school in the fall. I'm just curious if any of you are beginning your nursing career late in life as well.

Specializes in medical surgical.

I went to RN school at 46. Moved myself and children to GA to do this. Worked in a rural hospital a few years. When my charge nurse said she was going to become a NP, I said "not without me." It was the last day to sign up and I ran over to the university and signed up (had already taken the GRE). It all worked out. It is now 10 years later and I am NP-BC. NOW, if I could just get out of this state (Georgia) and practice without all the restrictions. Our young NP's leave.

Wow..so glad I looked at these posts. I'm 49 and serious considering LPN school next Fall. I've been in health care ( physical therapist assistant) but over time it's pretty tough on your body. I want to get more into the "medicine" side of care. It's VERY encouraging to see so many others going into nursing later in life... :)

AMAZING!!! INSPIRING!!! Thank you so much! I met a NP that said she made a career change from teaching to RN when she was 50 because "teaching wasn't for her". What an inspiration to know others in mid-forties and 50's that went on to further their career in such a dynamic and accomplished way! Love it!!

Hi y'all! I'm a 36 year old mom of a 15 year old and a 12 year old. I just got accepted to an awesome BSN program and I'll finish December 2018 when my son is a junior and my daughter is an 8th grader. My husband has been very encouraging and supportive through the transition. I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I got my Master's in Education along with my principal verification about 5 years ago. Kept looking for admin jobs but just became more and more disheartened with the state of education and realized how miserable I was. My whole family noticed it and my husband encouraged me to pursue something I could be passionate about. I love serving others and helping people have their best life possible so here we are. I'll be starting next month so trying to enjoy my last "summer vacation" with my kiddos.

Hello and good luck!! I got my LPN when I was 35 and I will have my RN I'm about to finish my bridge program, when I am 41.
