I am a senior BSN student (1 more semester to go) and intend to work in the critical care area. I would appreciate any suggestions of a good critical text or reference/resource book to begin reviewing now. A text will be recommeded for a course in the Spring semester--don't know the name yet.
All your suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thank you,
Camille

Fast Facts for Critical Care Nurses is a good one. I have the program on my PDA but it also comes in a book.

Check the AACN website. They sell Core Curriculum books that you might find interesting. I don't have any of them.

A Mosby book that I did get is called "Manual of Critical Care Nursing" by Pamela L. Swearingen and Janet Hicks Keens. I personally find it useful for looking up disease processes, as well as ventilator and hemodynamic information.
Good luck

I love that Swearingen book, excellent fast reference!!
As for texts,I swear by the ACCN Critica Care Text as the Bible.
Another book I really liked, and it's been awhile, so I am not sure of the name anyore, I think it was called Essentials of Critical care Nursing, I loved the illustrations, esp in hemodynamics section, but t is not just a cardiac book. I love Conover's cardiac Nursing text and Dubin's EKG book. Those are some of my faves. The best book I ever read for critica care is OLD, it was called Shock, written in 1980's. really good cellular-level descriptions of shock, not ll that much has changed. But I think this book is out of print now.
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I am going for amazon to look up these titles; and will check back to see if any new suggestions come up.
Thanks again,
Techniques in Bedside Hemodynamic Monitoring by Daily is EXCELLENT if you are really into Cradiac critical care and do a lot of Swans, and IABP.
AACN Clinical Reference for Critical Care Nursing by Kinney...the bible, thought I should give yu the correct name, since there are so many out there.
Thank you Hoolahan.

"The ICU Book" by Paul Marino. Definetly one of the best books out there for critical care.

The AACN Critical Care text is good....but dry, drY, DRY! They also have a procedure manual that is very good....going over how different proedures are done, it covers the use of invasive lines to chest tubes and such.
Thanks Untamed Spirit, I am always looking for more material to help me improve skills and knowledge.
I appreciate it
