Has anyone used or heard of using nasal trumpets for fecal incontinence in the icu? We have used them and they work great but our management says we can no longer use them because they are not made for that purpose. I need some evidence based articles or feedback supporting their use. Thanks

What do you mean caught up with it? Did you have sentinel events? I have heard of some from rectal trumpet.

Four years ago I came across a study done on liver transplants up north somewhere and they used the trumpet with success. Can you imagine the diarrhea there. Our facility said it was cool to use and then wouldn't you know it they started to buy all the new fangled stool collection devices! I actually got a pat on the back for that innovative use of standard technology! Chicago I think...just look for liver transplants and nasal trumpets!
