Microbiology in the Fall!!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi all! I am just doing my pre-reqs right now for the nursing program. I am entering my sophomore year and will be taking microbiology! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how it was for them and any advice they have to get an a???

Thank you!!

I took Micro last winter and recieved an 'A' in the lab portion and a 'B' in the lecture. Micro is not hard,but it is one of those classes where u must read not just to memorize but to understand. I attend Broward College and took it with Prof,Khan. Its also important to get and find a really good teacher thats willing because some teachers just dont care, this prof really cared and was wonderful at helping his students. If you study, do wat your suppose to do,look at it as something fun you'll do just fine. I'am now in the nursing program and start my classes this monday. GOOD LUCK! hope this helps :)

I was told by several of my coworkers that microbiology sounds tough, but is not that tough. They said that if you just study and do all your labs wou will be fine. Goodluck.

I take it this fall as well, just wanted to say good luck!

Make charts!! My microbiology was strictly infectious diseases and so many things were similar. Before each chapter I would put a chart together with 5 basic things... the disease, the infectious agent, important signs and symptoms, epidemiology ..and prevention and treatment methods. I would leave enough space in the chart to add things I learned in the lecture (what distinguishes that disease from another, a s or s that would definitely be indicative of that disease, etc)... It really does help bc you will find that sometimes there is only one tiny difference between 2 very similar diseases. You'll find that during a test, you'll remember the charts more than you would a paragraph from the book. Virulence factors are also very important and if you are able to get a complete grasp of the concept.. it will help you as well! It helped me make an A! Good luck!

I second that approach :up:. I made tables, flash cards, practice exams, and even went as far as making Jeopardyesque quizzes on PowerPoint.

I am also taking Micro right now. Up until this point, I have gotten straight A's in every class, but I am scared this one might not work out that way. We just had our first quiz, and I got the worst grade I have ever gotten... very nervous! (The good news is it was higher than the class average and mean, but still...) Just nice to know I'm not alone, and the suggestions in this thread will come in handy. :(

Come on Krissy, you know the goal is to be in the top 3 per each test, each class!!

:yeah::yeah:

Krissy, you sound just like me. I just started and 2 weeks into the class we are supposed to go thru 4 chapters. I cant believe how much work this class is. I have 1 other class and am having doubts that I will make it thru the next month. Im already thinking of dropping out. I got straight A so far, but its the content and I barely have time to read it let alone memorize or understand it. Im working day and night, but how much can a person comprehend in so little time?
