Hi Everyone! I'm new here, but I have a quick question. I'm trying to figure my schedule for spring semester. It will be my second semester as a pre-nursing student! I want to take A & P II, Microbiology, Dev. Psych, and Sociology of the family. My big question is: am I crazy for taking A & P II and Microbiology at the same time? They both have labs and I know they would be a lot of work, but is it even possible? Also, that only adds up to 13 credits, and I would like 15. What types of "easy" classes would you reccommend with that load?
Thanks so much!

I can say that is doable BUT it will require a lot on your part to make sure you give each class its deserved study time. I know it will be tough but don't neglect your other classes. Everyone always says that the sciences are really important, and I agree they most certainly are, but your other classes are important too. Those sometimes tend to suffer when all we focus on are the science courses. Anyway, I did something similar a couple semesters back and took A&P II and Chem I together in one semester..talk about studying overload! lol So on top of Chem I and A&P II, I was taking Dev. Psych, Eng II, Public Speaking, and a PE which all totaled 18 hours. You may think, well those are easy classes..but in between studying for Chem and A&P AND doing papers for Eng and Pub. Speaking AND having to log hours for a dumb PE class and study for Psych, things got stressful..but it's all about prioritizing and staying ahead as to not feel overwhelmed because it could have easily ended up that way. Just study, study, study (but make sure you are LEARNING not just MEMORIZING because that's not going to help you when you get into the program) and you will see the results like I did, all A's. Good luck!
PS- I did the math, and I might be wrong but wouldn't A & P II, Microbiology, Dev. Psych, and Sociology add up to be 14 credits? At my school the sciences are 4 because they include lab and the psych and sociology would be 3 credits each. Just wondering because I think 14 hours is a good number to take. I was taking 18 because I am towards the end and I wanted all those classes out of the way. 18 hours (to me) was a lot and I would not do it again unless I had to! lol

It's doable. My last semester before NS I did Micro, Chem, Stats, Dev. Psych. Definiytely a lot of work but with a schedule and a lot of hoping and praying that tests didn't overlap, i made it through (There were 2 times where I had a test on Mon. and Tues. and it was a long week or so no sleep at all trying to prepare). Anywho, it's def. doable and it will get you geared up for NS where you have that much work for one class lol

I don't think you're crazy at all! In fact, I love learning about 2 interconnected topics at the same time - I think the two will complement each other nicely.

First, congrats on making it through a semester of pre-reqs!
My first degree is in Biology, so I may be a bit biased. Taking A&P II and Micro together will be a lot of work, but it's certainly NOT impossible. Micro is pretty straight forward, but A&P will require a lot more study time.
In terms of adding an "easy" course to your load, nutrition is an interesting yet easy course that most nursing schools require.
Thank you for the replies everyone!! It helps a lot!
marie85: at my school, micro is only 3 credits, even with the lab. A&P is 4 credits.
Jayden8139: Wow! Chemistry and Micro? That makes me confident I can handle A&P II and Micro.
I've decided I'm going to take A&P II, Micro, Statistics, and Sociology of the Family. I'm also going to take a phy. ed. class. I know it will be a lot of work, but I'm not expecting it to be easy!
I actually took Chem & Micro in the same semester as well (summer semester at that!). You've got this! :)

At my school we take A&P II with our first semester of clinicals so to take Mircobiology with all of that going on is pretty much out of the question. But lots of people take Chem and Bio together and I would think that is just as difficult so I say if you can handle it, go for it :bowingpur

You can do it... I took Physio and Micro together... It was challenging, but I got it done! Additionally, the information works in congruence.
Add speech or your school's version of Eng 101... The only thing I would advise about taking together are the social sciences... Soc and Psych define the same word two different ways... Or at least that was my experience.
