Microbiology and A&P 2 online?

Hey everyone i'm taking most of my prerequisites at Georgia Perimeter which is like 10min from my house but they dont offer microbiology and A&P 2 so i would have to travel like 40min to go to another campus for GPC would it be better if i drive or should i just do it online? Would it make a difference at all?

You can not take the labs online, but you can take the physiology part online..but not recommended...ANP and micro are very strenuous classes and I am guessing you have taken ANP 1 already? I would recommend you take both classes in the traditional setting there at your campus! It may be a drive but its worth your grade since the science classes are what most nursing schools base your admission on! good luck!

^ There are plenty of classes with labs online!

I am taking A&P II completely online this summer as are other members of this board.

I think there are people who have taken micro completely online as well.

I took both classes online through ccconline. You purchase a labpaq which includes everything for you to do the labs safely in your home (including specimens, goggles, test tubes, etc). I got A's in both classes and if you are self-motivated and can study on your own, they are a legitimate option. It is a personal choice (which I am VERY happy about, I LOVED online classes) BUT should be determined by your own learning style.

i'm not really sure how an online class is. Is there videos of the professor talking? or do you just read the textbook and get online tests about it?

It totally depends on the class. With my class, the lectures are written out and posted online and then the labs and tests are all online.

i'm not sure if ill do well then because i wouldn't really be able to concentrate by just reading the lectures.

Well as I said, it totally depends on the class. Some classes have mp3s of the lectures and not just written out lectures.

I studied from the textbook, publisher quizzes and lab reports. I just glanced over the lecture notes because they just summarized the text anyway.

Some people can't learn from studying on their own like this. If you need to be in a classroom setting, it's no biggie. Everyone is different. Remember, your GPA is what is important and if it takes going in to a typical classroom setting for you to learn it, then that's what you have to do. Online classes aren't for everyone.

BTW... If I did get stuck on something, there are lots of resources available. Youtube was the best resource for videos that I found and I would always look there first.

Those can be very tough classes, I would suggest taking them on campus because of the problems that can be associated with online classes! I think it will be easier for you to learn when you are in a class room where you are getting the most well rounded learning environment! Plus, it will help you make sure you are less likely to forget turning in things (this could go under general issues with online classes).

If you have taken a core class such as Micro or A&P online before, then it is up to you, but if you have not I would highly discourage it. Yes the 40 minutes is a long drive, but worth the extra experience in my opinion.
