Microbiology and A&P 2 online?

Published

Hey everyone i'm taking most of my prerequisites at Georgia Perimeter which is like 10min from my house but they dont offer microbiology and A&P 2 so i would have to travel like 40min to go to another campus for GPC would it be better if i drive or should i just do it online? Would it make a difference at all?

How well did you do in A&P I? Online classes are great and can be very convenient, but as someone already mentioned they're not for everyone. For Spring 2010, I took A&P I, and Micro online along with Developmental Psych, and English II at a local community college. Micro and A&P I were hybrid classes which allowed me to take the lectures online but I had to go on campus once a week for a 2 hr lab (2.5 hr lab for micro). For both classes, I was required to take weekly timed quizzes online but the lecture and lab exams/quizzes were taken at the beginning of the labs. Both science courses were pretty demanding and required a great deal of time spent reading both the textbook and ppt lectures from the instructor. Essentially I had to teach myself. Many students in my class (especially Micro) struggled to keep up and understand the material with what seemed like little direction from the instructors.

If online classes turn out to not be an option for you, maybe you could check to see if the school 40 mins away has the option of taking longer classes in exchange for having to go in less frequently. Some schools give the option of having 45 min classes 3xs a week or 2.5-3hr classes just once a week.

Online classes are very possible, but you have to put in a great deal of effort and only you know what you have on your plate and how much more you can squeeze in. As for me, I started the semester off working FT, but then had to drop down to PT in order to stay on track with classes. I was in my 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy and I ended up delivering my baby 2 days after my A&P final exam and 1 day before my micro final (I made it up 3 weeks later). My lowest grade was an 88% and that was for Micro.

I wonder how many schools will accept these courses from an online school? I'd be afraid they 'frown' upon these types of classes.. especially if the lab is done at home.
