Hello everyone!
I'm a week from finishing up my Micro Biology class. I read a lot of posts on here about how difficult it was supposed to be. All those posts really scared me! Now, having gone through it, I want to let you all that haven't taken it know that it's not terribly difficult! I'd say it's up there with chemistry in difficulty level, but it's nothing to be scared about! I'll end up with a B in the course (not the best but ill take it!). I actually fell in love with the topic.
Now, for those of you that have taken both micro and A&P, I'm curious as to which is more difficult?
Thanks everyone!
I have taken both A&P and micro.
For me A&P was easier because i am good at memorizations. It was however a lot of work since we had to write two papers in that class and it was a lot of comprehending the materials as well... Very time consuming plus the teacher was amazing.
Micro could have been easier but my teacher was crazy difficult and very unpleasant. I learned a lot in that class while trying to be on the teachers good side by studying hard. I got an A in both classes but then again the instructor you have also makes a huge difference in how successful you are in a class.
I'm halfway through A&P I! I'm sure it will continue to get harder, but right now, it's not too bad! You're right! It definitely depends on the teacher. I must've had one brutal Micro teacher because this class is cake in comparison!! Or maybe it's simply that I enjoy the subject so much. Or that I took it in high school! Whatever it is, I'm relieved. It's actually the easiest science class that I've taken so far! For those that have yet to take it, prepare to put a lot of study hours in. I don't believe the subject matter is difficult to grasp. It's that there is just a massive amount of material to pound into your brain! My advice, check the teachers out before you sign up. Check ratemyprofessor.com and ask anyone and everyone you can about the teacher's teaching style and tests. Good luck to everyone!
I took both together last semester. For me I found Micro more challenging in terms of really deeply understanding the subject. For me, A&P left me dying to know more. I found myself studying not only the material presented in class, but doing a lot of research of my own. I just found the human body more interesting and tangible that the dry facts taught in microbiology
Micro was more difficult to me big time!! It was fun though! I came out with a B in all my science courses beside chemistry. I kinda like numbers I guess. I made an A in there, but then again, my teacher wasn't all that hard! I liked A & P better. I just wish I would have realized how vital it was to really learn this stuff before nursing school lol. I feel like I memorized a lot of it, and I shouldn't have! Nursing school has helped expand my knowledge base big time though, and I LOVE THAT!!! I actually have a love/hate relationship with nursing school. I despise all the hours spent on studying and no sleep, but I love the learning experiences I have. I think so different now than I use to!!
The professors will make or break these classes for you. In my A&P1 class, I had a teacher who would rather talk about his opinions on Evolution vs Creationism than teach us about the cranial nerves. In my Microbiology class, I had a teacher who was extremely intelligent and funny, but his lectures were hard to understand because he had an extremely thick Chinese accent. I made a C in A&P1 and an A in Microbiology, despite me finding A&P easier to understand. Of course I am referring to the actual subject matter and not the lectures.

I had a hard time with Micro. My teacher sucked!! He didn't even know what to teach us it was his second semester teaching. He had been working in a lab before then. The first day of class his exact words were " My first class said I shouldn't be teaching, so I'm going to try one more time then I'll quit." Yikes! You should have seen the looks on our faces. It was my worst semester by far. My first and only C came from this class. I was less than two points from a "B." But, considering who we had I was just glad to survive. We started with 30 and 11 finished. It depends on the teacher, I will take A&P I and II four more times if I could just skipped that clown once!
