any suggestions from WCCCD students

U.S.A. Michigan

This summer I have to take DT, HSC 100(medical math), and Political Science. I am applying for the Fall semester nursing program so I want these classes out of the way when I start. I work full time so I may have to take them all online. Is that a good idea in your opinion? Or would it be best to take any of them on campus. Also, any suggestions on which instructors are good? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

How long has everyone waited to get in the program? Also if you start in January does the program go through the summer?

Has anyone taken English online with Kenneth Jannot? I am taking his class right now, and it seems like he is all over the place and kind of vague on what is expected. Plus, I have emailed him about something twice over the last 2 weeks and no response. I was wondering if anyone knows whether he grades easily.

Hi,

I did not take that teacher for english online(I had Lanclos-Gillis for 110 and VanDeusen for 120) but fyi the distance learning policy is that the professor must respond to students within 48 hours (on business days). If they do not respond contact the Distant Learning department.

Hope that helps,

Virginia

I noticed another post you had about the GPA, it really is variable from one semester to the next, on the GPA acceptance. Some people have gotten in with lower than a 3.0, but I have noticed more and more students are applying to the program in the last three years. When I applied the first time, I did not get in with a 3.32. They take applications from students at other colleges, which can be a downfall. There were many I applied with from universities around metro Detroit who held high GPA's. I would recommend you redo something to bring up that GPA, otherwise you will find it hard to get accepted to any nursing school program. There are hundreds of applicants out there. I went up against 300 people the first time, and it was close to that the second time. Those of us who started in the Winter semester, do not go through the summer, however if there are any co req's to finish, that is an option, and there are some nursing classes for those who were re mediated. Hope this helps. Good luck to you also.

Just wanted to add one more thing, just because a student held a 4.0 does not mean they are going to do better than you in the program. I just wanted to add that, some people took one or two classes at a time to keep that high GPA. I had alot of A's and B's and one C. I am proof that does not mean you cannot succeed in nursing. The 4.0 students are no more successful than I am. Once in the program, I have yet to hear of a 4.0 nursing student. Nursing school is intense, tough and it requires you to be very committed to it. I took a heavy class load for two years prior to getting in, and I am glad I did, it prepared me for the intense program of nursing school now. Keep your chin up.

Thanks for the info and encouragement! I have a 3.4 in my pre-reqs I'm hoping to apply in May.
